We tie it back to our team culture.\u201d For Murray, the value of having the NCAA Championships in Atlanta went beyond the races themselves.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1230\" data-end=\"1377\">That kind of impact, Murray said, takes time. \u201cThe culture is built in drops, but it\u2019s lost in buckets.\u201dThe line reflects both Dynamo\u2019s identity and Murray\u2019s long-term view of swimmer development.<\/p>\n<p>The meet gave local swimmers a chance to watch the sport at its highest collegiate level, cheer for Dynamo alumni they look up to, and begin to see that stage as something they could reach themselves one day.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"wq9eeo\" data-start=\"1570\" data-end=\"1599\">From Watching to Believing<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1601\" data-end=\"1776\">For Dynamo swimmers, the NCAA Championships were not simply a chance to watch fast racing.<br \/>\nThey were a chance to connect what they do every day with what the sport can become.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1778\" data-end=\"1893\">\u201cThey see what\u2019s possible,\u201d Murray said. \u201cSome of them are going to end up back at that meet in four years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1895\" data-end=\"1992\">That becomes even more real when the swimmers competing on that stage came through the same club.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_640340\" style=\"width: 523px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-640340\" data-attachment-id=\"640340\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ian-murray-dynamo-ncaa-championships-atlanta\/owen-mcdonald-17\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/owen-mcdonald-2026-Mens-NCAA-SD-Chps.-2940-Edit-scaled.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"2560,1920\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;4.5&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;Peter H. For Murray, that matters as much as any single result.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen you have people who grew up in your program contributing at that level, that\u2019s a big deal,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cNot just for coaches, but for the athletes and families who can see that path.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"tpy9rt\" data-start=\"2356\" data-end=\"2376\">More than Results<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2378\" data-end=\"2538\">Dynamo has long been known as one of the strongest clubs in the country, but Murray made clear that he does not judge the health of a program only by its stars.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2540\" data-end=\"2650\">\u201cThe truth is, we\u2019re not the strongest we\u2019ve ever been at the very top right now,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"xrq2i7\" data-start=\"3182\" data-end=\"3205\">A Wider College Path<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2652\" data-end=\"2805\">What matters more to him is whether swimmers are progressing, whether the culture is strong, and whether athletes are being prepared for what comes next.<br \/>\n\u201cOur core mission is to prepare you for what\u2019s next,\u201d Murray said. \u201cAnd hopefully you leave Dynamo better than when you arrived.\u201d<br \/>\nThat shows up in the way Dynamo approaches athlete development. Murray spoke about technical fundamentals, dryland work, movement skills, and making sure swimmers continue improving through high school with room still left to grow in college.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3207\" data-end=\"3413\">Murray also spoke candidly about the changing college landscape. With roster pressures and shifting opportunities at the top of the sport, more swimmers are having to think differently about where they fit.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3415\" data-end=\"3455\">He does not see the changing landscape as a negative. Murray pointed to the value of patience and belief, especially with athletes who may not look like finished products at 17 or 18.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4376\" data-end=\"4433\">\u201cAll it takes is one person to believe in them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4435\" data-end=\"4628\">That perspective is part of what gives his comments weight. He is not talking only about how to build fast swimmers. He is talking about how to build a program that keeps people moving forward.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4630\" data-end=\"4878\">By the time the NCAA Championships left Atlanta, the medals and team scores were already in the books. For Murray, the more lasting effect was in the stands, on the pool deck, and in the minds of the younger swimmers who got to see it all up close.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4880\" data-end=\"4939\">For some of them, the meet was not just something to watch.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4941\" data-end=\"4967\">It gave them something to chase.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Note: Swimming World also hoped to connect with <strong>Swim Atlanta<\/strong> and <strong>Spartans<\/strong> to broaden the local perspective.
