﻿{"id":640808,"date":"2026-03-30T14:21:03","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T21:21:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=640808"},"modified":"2026-03-30T14:21:03","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T21:21:03","slug":"stanford-mates-lucy-bell-torri-huske-lead-honda-award-finalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanford-mates-lucy-bell-torri-huske-lead-honda-award-finalists\/","title":{"rendered":"Stanford Mates Lucy Bell, Torri Huske Lead Honda Award Finalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Stanford Mates Lucy Bell, Torri Huske Lead Honda Award Finalists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stanford teammates <strong>Lucy Bell<\/strong> and <strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> were two of four finalists for the Class of 2026 Honda Sport Award in swimming and diving revealed on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re joined by Virginia\u2019s <strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> and South Carolina diver <strong>Sophie Verzyl.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Honda Sport Award names one most outstanding athlete in each of the 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, who then become finalists for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year, awarded in a ceremony on July 27.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2026-ncaa-division-i-womens-swimming-and-diving-championship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAAs Meet Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bell, a senior, secured NCAA championships<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-championships-lucy-bells-breaststroke-split-leads-200-im-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> in the 200 individual medley<\/a> and 200 breaststroke last week at Georgia Tech. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-championships-lucy-bell-tolls-again-in-200-breast-repeat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repeated as the 200 breast winner<\/a>. She\u2019s a 12-time All-American who helped Stanford finish second in the team competition. She won ACC titles in the 200 breast and 400 IM, the latter a meet record.<\/p>\n<p>Curzan, a junior, helped Virginia secure its sixth consecutive NCAA championship. She ran her tally to 13 NCAA championships and 21 All-Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/claire-curzan-proved-her-dominance-but-her-best-is-still-to-come-at-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with six gold medals at NCAAs<\/a>. Curzan set the meet record and was just .01 off her NCAA record in winning the 200 backstroke. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-championships-virginias-claire-curzan-blasts-meet-record-just-off-ncaa-mark-in-100-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set the meet record<\/a> on the way to a win in the 100 back and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-division-i-womens-championships-torri-huske-touches-out-claire-curzan-in-epic-clash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she finished second to Huske<\/a> in the 100 fly in addition to the four relay titles.<\/p>\n<p>Huske was named the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/torri-huske-sophie-verzyl-win-swimmer-and-diver-of-the-year-from-cscaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Swimmer of the Year<\/a> after three individual title at NCAAs. The redshirt senior had five career national titles and 28 all-time All-America nods to go with six Olympic medals over two trips to the Games. She won the 50 free, 100 free (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-championships-torri-huske-second-fastest-ever-in-100-free-sweeps-3-individual-events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the second-fastest time in history<\/a>) and 100 butterfly at NCAAs.<\/p>\n<p>Verzyl earned CSCAA\u2019s diving award. She won her first NCAA title on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-championships-sophie-verzyl-delivers-late-for-3-meter-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3-meter springboard<\/a> and came within .25 points of winning 1-meter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-championships-chiara-pellacani-holds-off-sophie-verzyl-by-25-points-on-1-meter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earning a silver medal<\/a>.
