It went to Tampa. In the third-to-last event, it returned to Drury by 4.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>And when all was settled, the Tampa Trojans were the NCAA champions, reclaiming a title they last won in 2024 and in which they finished second in 2024 to Drury, which then vacated the title.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, there was no such drama thanks to the buzzsaw of Nova Southeastern. She was second in this event last year.<\/p>\n<p>Nova Southeastern\u2019s <strong>Hailey Williams<\/strong> finished second in 16:36.85, up two spots from last year, to grow the Sharks\u2019 lead to 60 points over Tampa. Colorado Mesa\u2019s <strong>Olivia Hasson<\/strong> was third with teammate <strong>Hanna Sasivarevic<\/strong> sixth. After finishing third in the 500 and the 1,000, he got to the top step on the podium by going 14:52.11. That dethrones <strong>Jacob Hamlin,<\/strong> denying the Tampa junior his third gold medal, though it is his fourth top-two finish. Hamlin was second in 15:00.42. Plaza was within three tenths of Hamlin\u2019s NCAA record from last year.<\/p>\n<p>Plaza also helped Indy make up 14 points on Colorado Mesa to jump into third in the team standings.<\/p>\n<p>Findlay\u2019s <strong>Sebastian Camacho Gomez<\/strong> was third in 15:03.28. <strong>Paul Demesy<\/strong> of West Chester finished fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Hamlin, the Trojans were plus-21 over Drury, taking the lead by 18.5 points. <strong>Barnabas Fluck<\/strong> was 10th for Tampa. Orban went 49.34 to get her hand to the wall first, .01 ahead of <strong>Emily Mears-Bentley,<\/strong> the 200 fly champ showing plenty of range. Third was <strong>Zsofia Kurdi,<\/strong> Orban\u2019s Nova teammate, in 49.30.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth- and fifth-fastest times of the night came from the B final, with <strong>Sophia Leo<\/strong> of Concordia in 49.68 and <strong>Tilde Morin<\/strong> of Tampa in 49.71 for ninth and 10th, respectively. Then came <strong>Ada Qunell<\/strong> of Colorado Mesa, officially fourth in 49.73. Eight swimmers broke 50 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Orban was second last year, though her winning time was way shy of the 48.07 that <strong>Luna Mertins<\/strong> of Lynn used to set the NCAA record last year.<\/p>\n<p>Nova Southeastern dominated, going 1-3-6-11. <strong>Maxine Egner<\/strong> went 49.92. He was three tenths up on Colorado Mesa\u2019s <strong>Guillaume Guth,<\/strong> who went 42.19.<\/p>\n<p>Third was <strong>Camillo Marrugo Montano<\/strong> of Findlay in 42.71. <strong>Maksymilian Minichowski<\/strong> of Catawba used outside smoke to rise from eighth in prelims to fourth in 42.83. <strong>Volodymyr Gavrysh<\/strong> was fifth in 42.91. Those two switched spots from where they were last year.<\/p>\n<p>In the team title race, Tampa only lost two points to Drury. <strong>Tibor Tistan<\/strong> was sixth to check Drury\u2019s <strong>Yuri Cabral<\/strong> in seventh. Tampa\u2019s <strong>Riccardo Pandin<\/strong> won the B final, a spot up on <strong>Lucas Minuer<\/strong> of Drury. This time, she reset her national record to 1:52.90, down .35 seconds from the winning time last year. She was more than four seconds clear of the field in a dominant performance.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa\u2019s <strong>Sidni Meister<\/strong> was the best of the rest in 1:57.29, a quarter-second up on Grand Valley\u2019s <strong>Vittoria Proietti.<\/strong> Meister was the only other holdover from last year\u2019s A final, having finished seventh. Zornoza Quiros was third last year with Adamchuk winning the title. The Panthers also had <strong>Evaldas Babakinas<\/strong> eighth.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa checked the Panthers as best it could. <strong>Will Beckstead-Holman<\/strong> was fourth in 1:43.90. <strong>Joshua Noll<\/strong> was seventh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Richard Schmiedenfeld<\/strong> of Colorado Mesa was third. Bergum blasted a 33.75 split coming home to win the race.<\/p>\n<p>Giraudeau was second in 2:11.26. Schmidt faded to third in 2:11.97. Any other winner would\u2019ve required Tampa to be within four places of Drury.<\/p>\n<p>The far easier path was to go just win the thing, which Tampa duly obliged.<\/p>\n<p>The Trojans went 2:51.14 to clinch their national title with style. They edged top-seeded Drury by .36 seconds. The squad of <strong>Tibor Tistan, Riccardo Pandin, Jacob Hamlin<\/strong> and <strong>Nicholas Cavic<\/strong> was ahead of Drury the whole way, with <strong>Yuri Cabral\u2019s<\/strong> anchor leg of 42.27 making it interesting late. <strong>Lucas Minuer, Matteo Vissotto<\/strong> and <strong>Alvaro Zornoza Quiros<\/strong> comprised the Panthers\u2019 squad.<\/p>\n<p>McKendree was third, <strong>Volodymyr Gavrysh<\/strong> leading in 42.71 out front. Lynn was third, thanks to <strong>Maurice Grabowski\u2019s<\/strong> 41.29 anchor leg that clawed them up from 11th place. Florida Southern was fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Mesa, up five points, was safely seventh thanks to <strong>Guillaume Guth\u2019s<\/strong> 42.17 off the front.
