MADISON, Wis, December 11. UNIVERSITY of Wisconsin sophomore Amalia Sarnecki has been named the Big Ten Female Swimmer of the Week the Conference office announced Tuesday. It is the first such honor for Sarnecki in her career.<\/p>\n
With the honor, she is now the fourth Badger woman to earned swimmer of the week honors from the Big Ten this season. Senior Bethany Pendleton, junior Carly Piper and sophomore Anna Trinidad have previously won the award.<\/p>\n
A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., Sarnecki put forth an impressive performance at the prestigious Texas Invitational last week. She posted an automatic qualifying standard for the 2004 NCAA Championships by posting a time of 2:13.55 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sarnecki also topped her own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke by finishing in a time of 1:02.44.<\/p>\n
In addition to her individual exploits, she also contributed to strong Badger efforts in the relays. Swimming the breaststroke leg, Sarnecki helped the 400-yard medley relay team top a five-year-old school record in the event by over a second with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 3:41.50. She was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay squad that earned another \u201cB\u201d cut with a time of 1:41.43.<\/p>\n
Wisconsin has a 3-1 overall dual meet record and a 3-0 dual mark in the Big Ten. The Badger women are ranked 11th in the CSCAA dual meet poll. UW is off from competition until Jan. 2 when it competes in the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
