The Nova Southeastern sophomore duly delivered.<\/p>\n<p>Orban won the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle as the Sharks moved to a commanding position after three days of the NCAA Division II Championships. It\u2019s a second slower than last year\u2019s winning time, and Orban was .02 slower than she was in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>That mattered little when she got her hand to the wall three tenths up on Findlay\u2019s <strong>Emily Mears-Bentley,<\/strong> who went 53.14 to improve on her fourth-place finish from prelims. She was fourth last year.<\/p>\n<p>Wingate freshman <strong>Mathilda Sandberg<\/strong> finished third in 53.56, a tenth up on Lynn\u2019s <strong>Lydia Douthit.<\/strong> The third seed from the morning, <strong>Tehani Kong<\/strong> of CSU East Bay, slipped to sixth. She had been third last year.<\/p>\n<p>The B final had a faster winner in <strong>Zinna Nimander<\/strong> of Delta State, who went 53.95. Grabowski is the NCAA champion in 45.34, just a tenth up on Findlay\u2019s <strong>Camillo Marrugo Montano.<\/strong> Grabowski was 16th in prelims last year and 10th in finals.<\/p>\n<p>But the second fastest time came from Noe. He entered as the 16th seed, blistering the B final from an outside lane in 45.43. That was .04 up on Marrugo Montano. Noe\u2019s time was quicker than the 45.85 that won last year. Still worth only nine points in the team standings, though.<\/p>\n<p>Carson-Neuman\u2019s <strong>Gabriel Morales<\/strong> finished third in 46.26, two tenths up on Tampa\u2019s <strong>Will Beckstead-Holman. Bokos was fifth last year.<\/p>\n<p>Indy\u2019s <strong>Celina Schmidt<\/strong> shook a sluggish prelims that left her seventh by speeding up to 4:16.20. He went 3:42.95, more than a second up on the time of 3:44.03 that he used last year. Pock was third after 200 yards and trailed Drury freshman <strong>Belhassen Ben Miled<\/strong> at by two seconds at the midway points. But he split 1:00.09 in breaststroke, taking nearly two seconds out of Ben Miled on the final 50 alone.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Miled finished second in 3:44.99. How about a 1-2 for Nova Southeastern. Orban won the 200 free in 1:46.34, retaining her title from last season, albeit four tenths slower (though she didn\u2019t have the 100 fly on the front end as a freshman last season.) Making things better was teammate <strong>Emilia Ronningdal<\/strong> finishing second in 1:46.82. The 200 IM champion edged <strong>Lucy Hedley\u2019s<\/strong> Grand Valley by .06 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>The Sharks maximized their point return with <strong>Maxine Egner<\/strong> winning the B final in 1:48.22 and <strong>Hailey Williams<\/strong> finishing 11th to stretch the lead over Tampa to 49.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>Drury\u2019s <strong>Maria Morales<\/strong> was fourth. He followed with a 1:32.50 to earn a national title. In the process, he deposed last year\u2019s champ <strong>Jacob Hamlin,<\/strong> who secured second in 1:33.10. Hamlin had won last year in 1:33.38 with Gavrysh second.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guillaume Guth<\/strong> of CMU was third in 1:33.48. There was more than 1.5 seconds back to Catawba\u2019s <strong>Maksymilian Minichowski<\/strong> in fourth at 1:35.04. She was third in prelims with 460.15 points, then ran away from the field at night with a tally of 512.45.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Taelyn Thomas<\/strong> finished second in 498.00, rising from sixth in prelims. Two-time champ <strong>Luna Vejarano<\/strong> was third with a score of 495.95, 1.15 points ahead of <strong>Kenya Meyer<\/strong> of Colorado Mesa. Clarion\u2019s <strong>Kaitlyn Madigan<\/strong> was sixth.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the fourth straight year that a Clarion diver has won this event. Vejarano won in 2023 as a freshman with <strong>Alexa Gonczi<\/strong> ninth. Gonczi won in 2024 with Vejarano third (and Madigan and Hudson fifth and sixth). Vejarano was first, Gonczi second, Hudson fourth and Madigan fifth a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Mesa was the big winner in the team competition, with Meyer fourth. Naskret went 51.24, trimming .02 off her NCAA record (and changing the school designation on her meet record set last year with Colorado Mesa). <strong>Alena Rozova, Livia Rodrigues<\/strong> and <strong>Sofija Kendzior<\/strong> went 3:35.21 to win and get the record.<\/p>\n<p>The record had been 3:35.70, holding since 2019 in the hands of Queens. Colorado Mesa (with Naskret) won the race last year in 3:37.54.<\/p>\n<p>The Argos were 11th as a team last year in 3:44.45, before the transfer of Naskret and the addition of freshman Rodrigues. Rozova and Kendzior were on last year\u2019s quartet.<\/p>\n<p>Indy was second in 3:38.03, Celina Schmidt splitting a picturesque 1:00.00 in breaststroke. Wingate was third, two tenths up on Nova Southeastern in possibly their weakest relay without Kristina Orban (though <strong>Zsofia Kurdi<\/strong> was 48.36 to be the fastest of the anchors). Colorado Mesa jumped into third place in the team standings by finishing sixth. That clubs more than a half-second off Drury\u2019s record of 3:06.75 from last year, with three teams under the old mark.<\/p>\n<p>Drury was also there in 3:06.54. The Panthers led by three tenths at the midway point, but Noe\u2019s 45.55 took the edge by four tenths for Indy. The anchors were a push, Anthony at 42.79 for Indy and <strong>Yuri Cabral<\/strong> 42.80 at Drury.<\/p>\n<p>Lynn was third in 3:06.65. They were 1.4 seconds back when <strong>Maurice Grabowski<\/strong> got in the water and cannoned his way to a 41.49 relay split.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa was fourth in 3:08.37. Colorado Mesa was fifth.
