With a time of 2:11.62, Foster was a little more than a second back of the winning effort registered by training mate <strong>Leon Marchand<\/strong> (2:10.06).<\/p>\n<p>But Foster\u2019s performance carries significantly more weight than merely his finishing position in a field that that also included breaststroke specialists <strong>Josh Matheny<\/strong> (2:10.71) and <strong>Jack Kelly<\/strong> (2:10.96). For Foster, one of the sport\u2019s top all-around performers, his effort at the FMC Natatorium was a personal-best outing by nearly three seconds. Heading into action, Foster owned a top time in the 200 breaststroke of 2:14.31.<\/p>\n<p>Foster has long been known as an individual medley star, status confirmed by a bronze medal in the 400 IM at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, along with four medals in medley events at the World Championships. He also rates as one of swimming&#8217;s premier competitors in the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 200 butterfly. Selecting a program for qualification meets and major international competitions is a balancing act for the Ohio native, who is a member of the star-studded pro group under coach <strong>Bob Bowman<\/strong> at the University of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>The 200 breaststroke is never going to be an event on Foster&#8217;s radar for high-profile meets, but to see the 24-year-old make a run at the event in Pro Series action is revealing. And on Wednesday night, in the Chicago suburbs, Foster flashed an effort that was excellent in nature.
