Claire Curzan Smashes American, NCAA Records in 200 Backstroke at ACC Championships<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the third time in 16 months,\u00a0Claire Curzan<\/strong> has recorded the fastest time ever in the women’s 200-yard backstroke. The University of Virginia standout posted personal best times in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke at the ACC Championships, putting on alert the record she set at last season’s NCAA Championships. Indeed, Curzan exceeded her previous record pace on three out of four 50-yard splits, and she walloped her previous top time by three-quarters of a second.<\/p>\n

Curzan finished in 1:46.09, well clear of her previous record of 1:46.82. The most improvement came on the back half, with Curzan splitting 54.70 over the last four lengths of the pool. The splits:<\/p>\n
