Angharad Evans Enjoys Breaststroke Clean Sweep at BUCS Championships<\/h4>\n

Angharad Evans<\/strong> clinched the breaststroke treble at the BUCS Championships in Sheffield.<\/p>\n

Evans was top female and Archie Goodburn<\/strong> top male as Loughborough University won the title with 792pts ahead of Stirling (749) and Bath (699).<\/p>\n

Freya Colbert<\/strong>, Ciara Schlosshan<\/strong>, Ed Mildred<\/strong> and Tyler Melbourne-Smith<\/strong> also made multiple trips to the top of the podium at Ponds Forge.<\/p>\n

Evans began her campaign with a 30.81 victory in the 50 breast, 0.01 off her prelim swim, followed by Anna Morgan<\/strong> of Edinburgh Napier (30.90) with Sienna Robinson<\/strong> next home in 31.84.<\/p>\n

The Stirling swimmer returned for the 100 breast in which she set the British record of 1:05.37 at last year\u2019s national championships, one of five journeys inside 1:06.<\/p>\n

Out in 31.32 and back in 34.74, Evans touched in 1:06.06 to go third in the fledgling rankings. Morgan took second once more in 1:08.23 with Charlotte Bianchi<\/strong> third in 1:09.52.<\/p>\n

Evans completed the treble in the 200 with a 2:24.72 victory, almost four seconds ahead of second-placed Robinson (2:28.61) with Morgan adding bronze to her silvers in 2:29.40.<\/p>\n

Goodburn started his programme in record-breaking style as he lowered his Scottish 50 breaststroke mark to 27.12<\/p>\n

The Edinburgh swimmer then posted 1:00.71 for a 100 victory to clinch the double.<\/p>\n

Treble for Freya Colbert<\/h3>\n

Colbert \u2013 representing Loughborough University – opened her programme in the 200 free where she posted 1:57.08 for a clear victory over Leah Schlosshan<\/strong>\u00a0(1:58.65) and Stirling\u2019s Evie Davies<\/strong> (2:02.15).<\/p>\n

She returned for the 200IM where she posted 2:11.10 for her second title of the opening night, the second-fastest of her career.<\/p>\n

Freya Colbert: Photo Courtesy: Morgan Harlow\/British Swimming<\/p><\/div>Colbert wasn\u2019t done for the evening, anchoring a Loughborough medley relay quartet to silver in 4:07.17 behind Stirling for whom Evans split 1:05.68 on the breaststroke leg as they came home in 4:03.49.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old was back in the Ponds Forge water the following day in 400IM in which she won the 2024 world crown, months before she finished fourth at the Paris Olympics, and took the BUCS title in 4:47.44.<\/p>\n

She returned for the 4×100 free, splitting 53.16 on anchor to guide the quartet to within 0.37 of winners Stirling who took the title in 3:44.28 to 3:44.65.<\/p>\n

Ciara Schlosshan<\/strong> won the fly treble, going 26.56 in the 50, 58.00 in the 100 and rounding off her programme with a 2:08.60 performance in the 200.<\/p>\n

Mildred dominated the 100 fly in 52.13 before having to come from 0.39 behind Jordan Cooley<\/strong> at halfway in the 100 free to win in 49.54 to 49.64.<\/p>\n

Representing Manchester Metropolitan, Mildred returned on the final day for the 200 fly where he was the only man inside 2mins in 1:58.89.<\/p>\n

Melbourne-Smith Clinches Freestyle Triple<\/h3>\n

Melbourne-Smith won the 200-400-800 treble. He opened with the 200 free, posting 1:48.16 with Stirling\u2019s Evan Jones<\/strong> also inside 1:49 in 1:48.06.<\/p>\n

He added the 800 title in 8:02.70 ahead of Loughborough teammate Sean McCann<\/strong> (8:08.29) and anchored the 4×1 free squad as Loughborough claimed a 3:18.71 title.<\/p>\n

Melbourne-Smith, who\u2019ll represent Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July, concluded his fine three-day campaign with a 3:51.02 victory in the 400 free.<\/p>\n

Max Litchfield<\/strong> clinched the medley double, taking the 200IM crown in 2:00.84 and the 400 in 4:20.03.<\/p>\n

Jack Skerry<\/strong> won the men\u2019s 50\/100m backstroke double in 25.05 and 54.81 respectively while Lucy Parsons<\/strong> took the 400 (4:15.82) and 1500 (16:39.74) as well as silver in the 800.<\/p>\n
