Collin Holgerson Sets National Independent High School Record in 100-Yard Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

A University of Tennessee recruit and member of the United States National Junior Team, Collin Holgerson<\/strong> established an independent national high school record in the 100-yard backstroke at the recent Tennessee State Championships. Racing for the McCallie School, Holgerson posted a time of 45.26 in the 100 back to break the independent record of Olympic gold medalist Ryan Murphy, who clocked a time of 45.34 in 2012.<\/p>\n

A junior, Holgerson was out in 21.70 and came home in 23.56 to win the event by more than three seconds. Holgerson wasn’t far off the overall national high school record, which belongs to Will Modglin at 45.08. Modglin is currently a star at the University of Texas and the American-record holder in the 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n

Holgerson also dominated in the 200 individual medley at the Tennessee Champs, showing his multi-event versatility through a time of 1:43.72. That performances was just shy of the independent school high school record, which is held by Reece Whitley at 1:43.55. Whitley produced that mark in 2018.<\/p>\n

Holgerson also contributed to a pair of McCallie relays. He led off the winning 200 medley relay with a backstroke split of 20.91, and McCallie touched the wall in 1:28.56. That squad also featured Aaron Colthrust<\/strong>, Zack-Andre Johnson<\/strong> and Jaden Mills<\/strong>. In the 200 freestyle relay, Holgerson anchored McCallie to a second-place finish with a 19.22 split.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
