Funding for the plan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usopc.org\/news\/2025\/march\/04\/united-states-olympic-paralympic-committee-and-united-states-olympic-paralympic-foundation-announce-100-million-gift-to-support-post-games-financial-security-for-team-usa-athletes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was announced in March 2025<\/a>, with Stevens announcing a $100 million anchor funding gift to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation from which these prizes will be paid out. The institution of the prize for this year\u2019s Olympics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/sports\/olympics\/team-usa-milan-cortina-e131245d?utm_sf_post_ref=660276570&amp;mod=e2tw&amp;utm_sf_cserv_ref=3108351\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was first reported Tuesday<\/a> by the <em>Wall Street Journal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The amounts will be paid in two increments, with the first $100,000 coming 20 years after their first Olympic appearance that is eligible for compensation and the second $100,000 will come as a guaranteed benefit payable to family upon the athlete\u2019s death. The figure of $200,000 is payable for each participation, so athletes can win the compensation multiple times.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2028-olympic-games-coverage-los-angeles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2028 Olympic Games Coverage &#8211; Los Angeles<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe Olympic and Paralympic Games are the ultimate symbol of human excellence,\u201d Stevens said. \u201cI do not believe that financial insecurity should stop our nation&#8217;s elite athletes from breaking through to new frontiers of excellence. Team USA athletes, extraordinary individuals, have proven they can achieve greatness and represent our incredible country with pride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 232 Olympians named to Team USA\u2019s roster for the Milan Cortina Olympics are the first to benefit. The Stevens Award is designed to last through the 2032 Brisbane Summer Olympics, covering two winter and two summer games initially.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Olympic and Paralympic Games are the ultimate symbol of human excellence.
