{"id":635859,"date":"2026-01-25T14:41:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T21:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=635859"},"modified":"2026-01-25T14:41:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T21:41:30","slug":"nova-southeastern-sets-division-ii-record-in-womens-400-free-relay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nova-southeastern-sets-division-ii-record-in-womens-400-free-relay\/","title":{"rendered":"Nova Southeastern Sets Division II Record in Women\u2019s 400 Free Relay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Nova Southeastern Sets Division II Record in Women\u2019s 400 Free Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nova Southeastern set an NCAA Division II record in the women\u2019s 400 freestyle relay on Friday in a dual meet.<\/p>\n<p>The Sharks\u2019 quartet of <strong>Kristina Orban, Zsofia Kurdi, Maxine Egner and Maya Esparza<\/strong> became the first Division II relay to break 3:18 in the 400 free with a time of 3:17.92.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/ncaa-division-ii-coverage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAA Division II Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The record they took down is a cool one, set twice by Queens University in the exact same time a year apart. At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2018-ncaa-dii-day-four-final-results-day-4\/ncaa-college\/2018\/March\/17?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fncaa-college%3Fpage%3D1%26orderBy%3DResult.MeetStartDateTime%26sortDirection%3D1%26q%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAAs in 2018<\/a>, the quartet of <strong>McKenzie Stevens, Kyrie Dobson, Wanda Dollmayer<\/strong> and <strong>Shelly Prayson<\/strong> went 3:18.04. At <a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2019-ncaa-division-ii-championships-full-results-ncaa-college-2019-03-13.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAAs in 2019<\/a>, Queens matched that time exactly with the squad of <strong>Polina Lapshina, Josephina Lorda,<\/strong> Dollmayer and Prayson.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s gone now, thanks to Nova Southeastern. A look at splits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nova Southeastern, 2026: Orban 49.64 \u2013 Kurdi 49.41 \u2013 Egner 49.74 \u2013 Esparza 49.13<\/li>\n<li>Queens, 2018: Stevens 50.14 \u2013 Dobson 49.57 \u2013 Dollmayer 48.94 \u2013 Prayson 49.39 \u2013 3:18.04<\/li>\n<li>Queens, 2019: Lapshina 48.77 \u2013 Lorda 49.78 \u2013 Dollmayer 49.96 \u2013 Prayson 49.53 \u2013 3:18.04<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Friday\u2019s record swim <a href=\"https:\/\/nsusharks.com\/news\/2026\/1\/23\/womens-swimming-sharks-surge-to-record-breaking-finish-on-senior-day.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">came in a home meet<\/a> in Fort Lauderdale in which the Sharks beat Barry and Florida Southern. The University of Miami also swam <a href=\"https:\/\/nsusharks.com\/documents\/2026\/1\/23\/Swim_Results_vs_FSC_Barry_UM.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the meet<\/a>, with NSU\u2019s A team beating the Hurricanes\u2019 squad by three tenths of a season.<\/p>\n<p>The record chase has accelerated quickly for Nova Southeastern. It set a school and Sunshine State Conference record at the 2025 conference meet at 3:19.77, then sped up at NCAAs to 3:19.09 with Kurdi, <strong>Emilia Roningdal, Maria Goncalvez<\/strong> and Esparanza. Kurdi is a grad students whose career began at Florida State.
