Notre Dame Victorious at Tim Welsh Classic<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tim Welsh Classic took place at Notre Dame Friday and Saturday, with the Fighting Irish coming out on top. The women’s team scored 1114.5 points to beat out Illinois (886), Akron (824) and Indiana State (644.5) while the Notre Dame men were the only team competing (1247 points).<\/p>\n

Notre Dame’s women won the 200 free relay in 1:30.55 with a team of\u00a0Hollie Widdows<\/strong>,\u00a0Becky Rentz<\/strong>,\u00a0Kate Simon<\/strong> and\u00a0Grace Brenneman<\/strong>. Later, the team of\u00a0Emily Hamill<\/strong>,\u00a0Mary Codevilla<\/strong>,\u00a0Carli Cronk<\/strong> and Widdows dominated the 400 free relay with a time of 3:35.44. Notre Dame’s\u00a0Calie Brady<\/strong> won 3-meter diving (307.70).<\/p>\n

Cronk blasted a time of 4:08.80 in the 400 IM to win convincingly while Widdows won the 100 butterfly in 52.95.\u00a0Mary Codevilla\u00a0<\/strong>was the winner of the 100 breaststroke (1:01.55). Cronk, Widdows, Rentz and Hamill put up a time of 7:11.62 in the 800 free relay.<\/p>\n

Widdows won a second event Saturday with a top showing in the 100 free (48.72), and\u00a0Grace Lanning<\/strong> was victorious in the 200 breast (2:13.12). Cronk swam a time of 1:55.28 as she dominated the 200 fly while\u00a0Ellie Lee<\/strong> won 1-meter diving (312.25). Widdows, Cronk, Rentz and Hamill finished off the meet with a 400 free relay win, clocking 3:18.07.<\/p>\n

Akron’s\u00a0Ada Szwabinska<\/strong> won the 50 free (22.29). In the afternoon session,\u00a0Martyna Piesko<\/strong>,\u00a0Claire Cox<\/strong>,\u00a0Callie Parkes<\/strong> and Szwabinska combined to win the 200 medley relay in 1:39.53.\u00a0Helena Lalkovic<\/strong> placed first in the 200 free (1:47.83), and Piesko led an Akron 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke in 53.48. Piesko added a first-place finish Saturday in the 200 back (1:55.90).<\/p>\n

Indiana State picked up a win in the 500 free from\u00a0Grace Cummings<\/strong> (4:47.90), and Cummings returned Saturday to win the 1000 free (9:46.97). Illinois’\u00a0Sara Jass<\/strong> took first in the 200 IM (2:00.83)<\/p>\n
