Gorbenko and Masiuk have both secured multiple medals in global competition, and they are the headliners of the midseason crop of international standouts to join NCAA programs.<\/p>\n<p>Masiuk made his initial appearance as a Longhorn during the Eddie Reese Showdown, a meet that featured host Texas welcoming Louisville and Ohio State to the Jamail Swim Center. Masiuk&#8217;s debut did not produce any earth-shattering performances, but his presence will undoubtedly be felt during the postseason, when Texas chases repeat titles at the Southeastern Conference Championships in February and the NCAA Champs in March.<\/p>\n<p>The freshman is best known for his worldwide success in the backstroke events, particularly in the 50- and 100-meter distances. Masiuk is a two-time bronze medalist in the 50 backstroke at the World Championships and was the bronze medalist in the 100 backstroke at the 2024 European Championships. He has also displayed world-class skill in the shorter butterfly events and 100 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Where Masiuk will be utilized by Texas coach Bob Bowman will be unveiled in the coming weeks. His addition to the Longhorns&#8217; deep collection of talent should allow for lineup flexibility, particularly on relays. Texas already boasts backstroke stars Hubert Kos and Will Modglin, so it will be interesting to see the plan for Masiuk and where he&#8217;ll best fit in Texas&#8217; pursuit of team
