January features the final dual meets of the season before conference championships in February and the NCAA Championships in March. Prior to the holiday break, swimmers set themselves up for championship season with strong performances at various midseason invitationals. Here is a look at every women\u2019s individual event as of right now, including the records, the winners from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2025-ncaa-division-i-mens-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2025 NCAA Championships<\/a>, the top\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swimmeetresults.tech\/NCAA-Division-I-Men-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">returning swimmers<\/a>, the top times in the country this season and the top performances in history.<\/p>\n<p>This final entry includes the statistics for the men&#8217;s butterfly and individual medley races. Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Liendo<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-mens-championships-josh-liendo-repeats-in-100-fly-with-best-time-43-06\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clocked 43.06 on the way to his national win last season<\/a> while Arizona State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ilya Kharun<\/strong> went 43.43. Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Luca Urlando<\/strong> broke into the top-three with his 43.49. All three of those men return this season. While Kharun swam his best time at midseason, Liendo took the next step in his career by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-josh-liendo-blasts-stunning-world-record-in-100-butterfly-in-toronto-doubles-with-50-free-victory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">breaking the short course meters world record in the 100 fly at the World Cup meet in Toronto<\/a>, hinting that a 42-second swim might be possible by the spring. Urlando <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-mens-championships-luca-urlando-shatters-ncaa-record-in-100-butterfly-for-first-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crushed the field at last year&#8217;s meet<\/a>, leaving Kharun almost two seconds behind as he swam the fastest time in history. Since then, Urlando <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-4-finals-luca-urlando-pulls-away-to-earn-world-title-for-american-men\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has gone on to win a world title in the 200-meter butterfly<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgia-invitational-luca-urlando-lowers-american-ncaa-record-in-200-fly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lower his own record in the yards event at midseason<\/a>. Kharun, meanwhile, was the NCAA champion in 2024 and the Olympic bronze medalist later that year, and he swam his best time at 1:37.56 in November. If he drops the medley, that makes\u00a0<strong>Owen McDonald<\/strong> the favorite for his first NCAA title. Aside from Kos, McDonald is the only returning swimmer who went sub-1:40 at the 2025 NCAA meet. Urlando has a quicker personal best, but he has not been under 1:40 since 2022. All four return this year, and Nelson and Lucas currently lead the national rankings after their enormous best times in November <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nate-germonprez-blasts-49-71-100-breast-at-texas-invite-torri-huske-baylor-nelson-lead-flurry-of-top-ranked-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vaulted them into the top-10 in history in the event<\/a>.
