This change from previous Pro Series competitions, which utilized a prelims-finals setup, was announced last year, and is now set to be instituted. At the time of the announcement, USA Swimming emphasized the need for more three-round setups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn preparation for what\u2019s ahead in LA28, it has become clear we need to create more long-course racing opportunities for our National Team,\u201d said <strong>Greg Meehan<\/strong>, Managing Director of the National Team, during the November announcement. \u201cThis new format at (the) Pro Swim Series meets in 2026 is a great first step by contesting some events in a prelims\/semifinals\/final format or a prelims\/final distance format. It\u2019s especially important in 2026 without a traditional nine-day meet to finish the long-course season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first meet of the series will be held Wednesday through Saturday at the University of Texas&#8217; Jamail Swim Center and will include semifinal rounds in the 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly. Semifinals will also be held in the 200 individual medley. The women&#8217;s 800 freestyle will be conducted in a prelims-finals format, rather than in timed finals, which has been the approach in past Pro Series meets.<\/p>\n<p><a
