﻿{"id":629010,"date":"2025-12-13T19:26:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T02:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=629010"},"modified":"2025-12-13T19:26:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T02:26:08","slug":"rice-women-win-third-straight-cscaa-open-water-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rice-women-win-third-straight-cscaa-open-water-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Rice Women Win Third Straight CSCAA Open Water Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Rice Women Win Third Straight CSCAA Open Water Title<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Rice women\u2019s team won the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Open Water Championships Saturday, their third straight title.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Valley State won the men\u2019s title at the meet in Sarasota, Fla.<\/p>\n<p>Rice has owned the young event, winning the title in 2022, 2024 and now this year. (The 2023 meet was canceled due to inclement weather.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/runsignup.com\/Race\/Results\/Simple\/195040#resultSetId-616002;perpage:100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ella Dyson<\/strong> won her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ben-wainman-ella-dyson-win-titles-at-cscaa-open-water-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third straight individual title in the meet<\/a>. Dyson finished first with a time of 56 minutes, 5.7 seconds. Second was teammate <strong>Ava Portello<\/strong> in 57:46.7. <strong>Ava Hamblett<\/strong> was 10th in 59:18.0. The Owls combined time of the top three scoring finishers was 2:53:10.<\/p>\n<p>Villanova challenged for the title with three finishers in the top 12, all breaking an hour in the 5-kilometer race. <strong>Marlene Blanke<\/strong> was third in 58:31.1. Teammate <strong>Riley Hull<\/strong> was sixth. Their time was 3 minutes, 22 seconds behind Rice.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth place went to <strong>Katharina Hibbeln<\/strong> of Tampa in 58:36.3. <strong>Casey Stephens<\/strong> of Miami was fifth. Cincinnati had a pair of top-10 finishers with <strong>Libby Michel<\/strong> seventh and <strong>Taira Vroom<\/strong> ninth.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s side was much even more balanced, the team race decided by just nine seconds. Grand Valley State\u2019s three finishers tallied a time of 2:42:12, with Lynn University second in 2:42:21.<\/p>\n<p>Lynn\u2019s <strong>Mevlut Efe Guler<\/strong> won the overall title in 52:54.1, his time nearly 3.5 minutes ahead of his nearest teammate.<\/p>\n<p>GVSU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DSObNOEjHG9\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">placed four finishers<\/a> in the top 17 spots. <strong>Berk Boz<\/strong> was sixth in 53:22.7. <strong>Raul Briceno<\/strong> followed in 53:29.4. <strong>Anton Zeno Rauch<\/strong> was 10th, with <strong>Evan Fox<\/strong> 17th.<\/p>\n<p>Behind Guler was Michigan\u2019s <strong>Joshua Brown,<\/strong> who went 52:55.6, the only Wolverine in the race. Third place went to <strong>Matt Cinque<\/strong> of Boston College, who went 52:56.0. Tampa\u2019s <strong>Jacob Hamlin<\/strong> finished fourth in 52:57.5, with a gap of nearly 20 seconds back to <strong>Parker Sterlitz<\/strong> of West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Miami\u2019s <strong>Elif
