Marrit Steenbergen<\/strong> twice rewrote the European history books on Thursday evening. First up was the 100IM where she downed the 100IM mark held by Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> since 2017 before returning for the 200 free where she consigned Federica Pellegrini’s<\/strong> 2009 mark to history. The Netherlands swimmer returned for a tilt at another double by opening the session with a top time of 2:08.20 in the 200IM. She was followed by Anastasia Gorbenko<\/strong> (2:08.33) and Katie Shanahan<\/strong> (2:08.36). Men’s 200IM<\/h3>\n
Duncan Scott<\/strong> won his first European short course 200 free title on Thursday where he led home Stirling training partner Jack McMillan<\/strong> for a British 1-2. The Scot returned for the IM, in which he’s the defending champion, and was the only man inside 1:54 in 1:53.74. Alberto Razzetti<\/strong>, silver medallist behind Scott two years ago, is second through in 1:54.05 heading five men on 1:54. Max Litchfield was the second Briton through but Tom Dean<\/strong>, the 2023 world bronze medallist, was DQd from heat three for an incorrect backstroke to breaststroke transition.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/m-2IM-lub-450x393.png\")

Men’s 800m Freestyle<\/h3>\n
Johannes Liebmann\u00a0<\/strong>broke the 400 free WJR en-route to fourth on the opening night in 3:37.39. The 18-year-old was back in the water on Friday morning in the second and unseeded heat of the 800 where he put the cat among the pigeons with another global junior mark of 7:30.94 to take more than five seconds off the previous standard of 7:36.00 held by German teammate Sven Schwarz<\/strong> since November 2019. Victor Johansson led the way in the penultimate heat in 7:33.15 where Kuzey Tuncelli<\/strong> and Florian Wellbrock<\/strong> came in fifth and sixth respectively to leave them with a nervous wait.<\/p>\nThe final prelim featured the likes of world record holder Daniel Wiffen<\/strong> and his Cal-Berkeley training partner Lucas Henveaux<\/strong> as well as Zalan Sarkany<\/strong> and Oliver Klemet.<\/strong> Zarkany came home in 7:33.85 ahead of Wiffen (7:34.60) with six men from the final heat progressing. That meant there was no place for Tuncelli or Wellbrock who finished 15th and 18th respectively. Women’s 100 Free<\/h3>\n
Eva Okaro<\/strong> made her first trip inside 52 seconds to top the prelims in 51.90. Swimming out of lane one in the final heat, Okaro was the only woman to break 52 to become the fourth fastest Briton behind Fran Halsall<\/strong> and her national record of 51.19, Freya Anderson<\/strong> and Anna Hopkin.\u00a0<\/strong>Beryl Gastaldello<\/strong> was next through in 52.11 in the pursuit of her title defence followed by Italian Sara Curtis<\/strong> – who had many fine tussles in junior waters with Okaro – in 52.29 and Marrit Steenbergen<\/strong> (52.35). The two-per-nation rule intervened once more with Minna Abraham<\/strong> leading the Hungarian trio in 52.43 followed by Petra Senanszky<\/strong> in 52.94 meaning Panna Ugrai<\/strong> misses out (53.35).<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/w-100-free-ub-700x500.png\")

Defending champion Maxime Grousset<\/strong> went in the last of eight heats and he led halfway only for Tomas Lukminas<\/strong> to storm through on the second half of the race. The Lithuanian split 11.88\/11.79 on the second 50 to post 45.87 and take 0.22 from Tomas Navikonis’<\/strong> national record from the 2024 s\/c worlds. Carlos D’Ambrosio<\/strong> was second through in 46.20 with his fellow Italian Manuel Frigo<\/strong> also progressing in 46.65 as Leonardo Deplano<\/strong> missed out in 46.78.
