The US Open continued from Texas with the first full day of competition.<\/p>\n

The prelims include the men’s and women’s 50 backstroke, 400 free, 200 IM, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle heats.<\/p>\n

Here is a look at how the morning played out:<\/p>\n

Results<\/a><\/p>\n

US Open Women’s 50 Backstroke<\/h3>\n

As anticipated, the backstroke events are again loaded on the women’s side.<\/p>\n

American record-holder Katharine Berkoff t<\/strong>ook the top seed in 27.49, about a half second off of her US Open and American record time of 26.97 set in June.<\/p>\n

Regan Smith<\/strong> was just behind at 27.79, followed by fellow Olympian Phoebe Bacon<\/strong>, who got tot he wall in 28.13.<\/p>\n

Erika Palaez<\/strong> took the fourth seed in 28.21, just ahead of a pair of Canadian Olympians, Ingrid Wilm<\/strong> (28.28) and Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> (28.42), who continues to shine swimming just about anything.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top eight were Leah Shackley<\/strong> (28.48) and Kaitlyn Owens<\/strong> (28.53).<\/p>\n

US Open Men’s 50 Backstroke<\/h3>\n

While the U.S. men dominated the backstroke to kick off the session, it was the international men who were off to the races faster in the men’s event.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Henry Allan<\/strong> took the top seed in 24.70, followed by Ivan Tarasov<\/strong> and Hubert Kos<\/strong>, who tied at 25.19 for the second seed.<\/p>\n

US’s Shaine Casas<\/strong> took the fourth seed in 25.22, ahead of Bjoern Kammann<\/strong> (25.24), Jack Aikens<\/strong> (25.29) and Daniel Diehl<\/strong> (25.29), who tied for the sixth spot, and Sam Lorenz<\/strong> (25.30).<\/p>\n

US Open Women’s 400 Free<\/h3>\n

The international star power continued in the 400 free as Canadian Olympic gold medalist Summer<\/strong> McIntosh<\/strong> claimed the top seed in the 400 free by 11 seconds.<\/p>\n

McIntosh got to the wall in 4:00.68. The second seed went to U.S. Olympian Emma Weyant<\/strong>, who finished in 4:11.89.<\/p>\n

Alex Siegel<\/strong> took the third seed in 4:13.56, followed by Mila Nikaronov<\/strong> (4:13.60), Olympians Anna<\/strong> Peplowski<\/strong> (4:13.65) and Erin Gemmell<\/strong> (4:14.41), Chloe Stepanek<\/strong> (4:14.99) and Leticia Fassina Romao<\/strong> (4:15.77).<\/p>\n

US Open Men’s 400 Free<\/h3>\n

Training partners Luke Hobson, Carson Foster<\/strong> and Leon Marchand<\/strong> all showed up in strong fashion, taking the top three seeds in the 400 freestyle to set up what should be a very interesting final.<\/p>\n

Hobson took the top seed in 3:47.56, ahead of Foster (3:48.05) and Marchand (3:48.13).<\/p>\n

Luka Mijatovic<\/strong> took the fourth seed in 3:48.30, ahead of Aaron Shackell<\/strong> (3:49.56), Illia Sibertsev<\/strong> (3:51.60), Luke Whitlock (<\/strong>3:51.94) and Jordi Vilchez<\/strong> (3:52.00).<\/p>\n

Bobby Finke<\/strong> ended up 11th (3:55.21).<\/p>\n

US Open Women’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

US Olympic gold medalist Kate Douglass<\/strong> cranked out a strong morning swim to get to the wall in 2:10.60.<\/p>\n

Having just swam the 50 back, Canada Olympian Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> threw down a 2:11.35 to take th top seed.<\/p>\n

Olympian Alex Walsh<\/strong> took the third spot at 2:11.67.<\/p>\n

Tara Kinder<\/strong> took the fourth seed in 2:13.44, followed by UCLA’s Rosie Murphy<\/strong> (2:13.72), Olympians Alex Shackell (<\/strong>2:13.88) and Phoebe Bacon<\/strong> (2:14.38), who also swam the 50 back, and Isaballe Boyd<\/strong> (2:15.10).<\/p>\n

US Open Men’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

Swimming a quick double, Hungary Olympic champion Hubert Kos<\/strong> took the top seed in the 200 IM. He got to the wall in 1:58.79, just ahead of Texas’ Baylor Nelson<\/strong> (1:58.99).<\/p>\n

Indiana’s Owen McDonald<\/strong> finished with the third seed in 1:59.25, followed by Tristan Jakovics<\/strong> (1:59.31), Canada’s Finlay Knox<\/strong> (1:58.72), Noah Cakier<\/strong> (2:00.04), Olympian Kieran Smith<\/strong> (2:00.64) and Luke Barr<\/strong> (2:00.71).<\/p>\n

US Open Women’s 50 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

Ireland’s Mona McSharry<\/strong> claimed the top seed in the 50 breast, getting to the wall in 30.80.<\/p>\n

Maria Ramos Najji<\/strong> took the second seed in 30.91, followed by Skyler Smith<\/strong> (30.99), Mackenzie<\/strong> Lung<\/strong> (31.00), Aliz Kalmar<\/strong> (31.03), Piper Enge<\/strong> (31.16), Alexanne Lepage<\/strong> (31.19) and Caroline Larsen<\/strong> (31.33).<\/p>\n

US Open Men’s 50 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

Michael Houlie<\/strong> took the top seed in the 50 breast, getting to the wall in 26.79.<\/p>\n

Van Mathias<\/strong> took the second spot in 26.64, followed by Campbell McKean<\/strong> (27.23), Jack Kelly<\/strong> (27.26), Josh Matheny<\/strong> (27.32), Nate Germonprez<\/strong> (27.58), Andres Puente Bustamante<\/strong> (27.61) and Travis Gulledge<\/strong> (27.69).<\/p>\n

US Open Women’s 50 Free<\/h3>\n

Kate Douglass<\/strong> claimed her second top seed of the morning with a 24.49 in the 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n

She was just ahead of NYAC and former Virginia teammate Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> (24.67).<\/p>\n

They both share the American record at 23.91.<\/p>\n

Marie Wattel<\/strong> was third in 24.79, followed by Darcy Revitt<\/strong> (24.85) and Olympic champion Simone Manuel<\/strong> (24.86).<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top eight were Elizaveta Klevanovich<\/strong> (24.99), Caroline Larsen<\/strong> (25.00) and Liberty Clark<\/strong> (25.03).<\/p>\n

US Open Men’s 50 Free<\/h3>\n

Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> swam to the 11th seed in the 50 free, getting to the wall in 22.17 in his return to the big stage.<\/p>\n

Serbia’s Andrej Barna<\/strong> took the top seed in 21.58, followed by Olympians Jack Alexy<\/strong> (21.71) and Chris Guiliano<\/strong> (21.74).<\/p>\n

Arizona State’s Jonny Kulow<\/strong> was fourth (21.90), followed by Remi Fabiani<\/strong> (21.91), Tolu Young<\/strong> (21.92), Kaii Winkler<\/strong> (21.93) and Matt King<\/strong> (22.04).<\/p>\n
