Entry Lists Published For European Short Course Championships; Russians & Belarussians Absent<\/h4>\n

The entry lists for the European Short Course Championships which start in Lublin, Poland, on Tuesday have been published.<\/p>\n

Notable by their absence are Russian and Belarussian athletes despite World Aquatics guidelines<\/a> published earlier this month making them eligible for continental competitions. That meant there was the prospect of them competing in Poland despite the ongoing war on Ukraine and the proximity of the border.<\/p>\n

The meet features many Olympic and world champions and medallists. On the men’s side, that includes No\u00e8\u00a0<\/b>Ponti, <\/strong>\u00a0who won the treble last time out at Otopeni 2023 and who is second seed behind Alberto Razzetti<\/strong> in the 200 fly. It’s an event the Swiss swimmer has opted away from over the last 12 months, telling Swimming World<\/a> that “it\u2019s not that I\u2019m not good but it\u2019s not really a race I like that much. I struggle quite a lot especially mentally with it and also physically \u2013 it drains me and mentally even more so.”<\/p>\n

Also competing is Daniel Wiffen<\/strong>, who won the 400-800-1500 treble two years ago, when he took almost three seconds off the 800 WR held by Grant Hackett<\/strong> since 2015.<\/p>\n

Not competing is Ben Proud<\/strong>, who won the 50 free in a European record of 20.18 in Otopeni. The Briton, along with fellow Europeans Shane Ryan, Kristian Gkolomeev, Andrei Govorov<\/strong> and Marius Kusch<\/strong>, have joined the drug-fuelled circus that is the Enhanced Games.<\/p>\n

Marrit Steenbergen<\/strong> – winner of the 100 free at the World Championships in Singapore – is entered in the 50, 100 and 200 free as well as the 100 and 200IM. Roos Vanotterdijk<\/strong> is seeking more silverware after a medal-laden year which saw the Belgian follow up five medals at the European U23s with silver and bronze in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Anna Elendt, Ruta Meilutyte, Isabel Gose, Freya Anderson<\/strong> and Beryl Gastaldello<\/strong> are also making the trip to Poland.<\/p>\n
