{"id":627463,"date":"2025-11-20T11:13:56","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T18:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=627463"},"modified":"2025-11-20T11:14:41","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T18:14:41","slug":"will-modglin-breaks-american-record-in-100-back-third-fastest-in-ncaa-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/will-modglin-breaks-american-record-in-100-back-third-fastest-in-ncaa-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Modglin Breaks American Record in 100 Back, Third-Fastest in NCAA History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Will Modglin Breaks American Record in 100 Back, Third-Fastest in NCAA History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Will Modglin<\/strong> is only midway through his midseason week at the Texas Invitational, but the Longhorns junior put his stamp on the meet on Thursday, Nov. 20.<\/p>\n<p>Modglin broke the American record with a 43.26 swim in the 100-yard backstroke during Thursday&#8217;s prelims session in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>His previous best time was set at last year&#8217;s NCAA Championships when he went a 43.91.<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA record was set by his Texas teammate <strong>Hubert Kos<\/strong>, from Hungary (43.20). Florida&#8217;s <strong>Jonny<\/strong> <strong>Marshall<\/strong> represents Great Britain internationally, despite growing up in the U.S., so his time of 43.22 is a GB record.<\/p>\n<p>Modglin, who will represent the U.S. at the pan Pacific Championships next year, broke the record of Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Luca Urlando<\/strong>, who swam a 43.35 in 2022, leading off the 400 medley relay at the NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n<p>It follows his strong performance all week. On Day 1, he scorched a 20.00 even in the 50 backstroke, the fastest in history. He also went a 50.91 in the 100 breaststroke.
