{"id":625530,"date":"2025-10-30T14:38:29","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T21:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=625530"},"modified":"2025-10-30T14:54:34","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T21:54:34","slug":"josh-liendo-kylie-masse-to-lead-team-canada-at-2026-commonwealth-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/josh-liendo-kylie-masse-to-lead-team-canada-at-2026-commonwealth-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse to Lead Team Canada at 2026 Commonwealth Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse to Lead Team Canada at 2026 Commonwealth Games<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Olympic medalists <strong>Josh Liendo<\/strong> and <strong>Kylie Masse<\/strong> were named to a 12-person delegation for Team Canada at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p>The veterans headline a youthful squad of six men and six women who will compete from July 23-Aug. 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to welcome both seasoned athletes and first-time competitors representing Canada at the 2026 Commonwealth Games,\u201d Team Canada 2026 Director<strong> Kelly Laframboise<\/strong> said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimming.ca\/blog\/olympic-program-swim-team-named-for-2026-commonwealth-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>. \u201cTheir dedication, passion, and perseverance inspire us all, and I couldn\u2019t be prouder to cheer them on as they showcase the very best of Canadian spirit on the world stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Masse, a four-time Olympian and five-time Olympic medalist, will be joined by Paris Olympians Ella Jansen, <strong>Sophie Angus<\/strong> and <strong>Julie Brousseau. Madison Kryger,<\/strong> who debuted on the senior national team at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, rounds out the squad with <strong>Delia Lloyd.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Angus won two relay silver medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, while Jansen picked up relay silver and bronze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompeting at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was an incredible experience,\u201d Angus said. \u201cIt was my first summer with the national team, my first international medals, and my first time living in an athletes\u2019 village. I\u2019m really looking forward to the 2026 Games. With a great mix of veterans and rookies on the team, I\u2019m excited for fast swimming and the opportunity to make Canadians proud in Glasgow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liendo, the Olympic silver medalist in the 100 fly in Paris, will be joined by Paris teammate <strong>Lorne Wigginton.<\/strong> <strong>Oliver Dawson<\/strong> and <strong>Antoine Sauve,<\/strong> both of whom swam at Worlds in Singapore, are on the team as well as senior debutants <strong>Benjamin Loewen<\/strong> and <strong>Ben Winterborn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing able to compete at that meet allowed me to put myself up against some of the best in the world,\u201d the 17-year-old Dawson said. \u201cIt was a real fun meet to be a part of with great results I am proud of especially standing on the podium with some of the most notable Canadian swimmers ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Perry,<\/strong> Swimming Canada\u2019s National Coach Lead, will be the head coach, assisted by <strong>Linda Kiefer<\/strong> of the University of Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>Canada won seven gold and 20 total medals at the last Commonwealth Games in 2022 in Birmingham, England. Liendo won gold in the 100 fly, bronze in the 50 free and 400 free relay bronze. Masse is the reigning 50 back champion, and she finished second to <strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> of Australia in the 100 back and 200 back. Canada won two relay silvers and a bronze on the women\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 squad will not include the retired <strong>Maggie Mac<\/strong> <strong>Neil,<\/strong> who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/commonwealth-games-maggie-mac-neil-tops-emma-mckeon-in-epic-100-fly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set a meet record in the 100 fly in 2022<\/a>, nor <strong>Summer McIntosh,<\/strong> who did the individual medley double to go with silver in the 400 free.<\/p>\n<p>The aggregate medal tally includes para-swimming events, which will be contested in the meet at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre. Invitations for those athletes will be supplied directly by World Para Swimming no later than next March.<\/p>\n<h4>Canada at the 2026 Commonwealth Games<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Men: Oliver
