Gallery Of Olympic Gold Medalists To Converge On Brisbane for Australia v The World Meet In December<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some of the biggest names in world swimming will converge on 2032 Olympic host city, Brisbane in December for a short course duel meet between Australia and The World \u2013 featuring 25m events.<\/p>\n

In a major talent coup, it has already attracted a total of 12 Olympic gold medalists and world champions for a meet promoted as being \u201cfast and furious\u2026with racing like you\u2019ve never seen before with fans up close and personal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Three of Australia\u2019s biggest names, <\/strong>Olympic champions Cam McEvoy, Kaylee McKeown <\/strong>and Mollie O\u2019Callaghan <\/strong>will spearhead a who\u2019s who of the Dolphins team.<\/p>\n

And they will be joined by fellow Olympic champions, Italy\u2019s Thomas Ceccon<\/strong>, Germany\u2019s Lukas Martens <\/strong>and Great Britain\u2019s dynamic duo Duncan Scott <\/strong>and Tom Dean<\/strong> in a star-studded World team.<\/p>\n

Swimming Australia announced the world first meet today, to be swum on December 12 at the historic Valley Baths \u2013 Queensland\u2019s spiritual home of swimming from the 50s, 60s and 70s\u2013\u2013 and to be televised in prime time by Swimming Australia\u2019s broadcast partners, Channel 9.<\/p>\n

Revealing the program will include world first racing over 25m after the success generated by McEvoy in his 25m swims at the recent Australian Short Course and Queensland Preparation Meets where he twice clocked the world\u2019s fastest time of 9.36.<\/p>\n

McEvoy convinced it is time for swimming to push the refresh button.<\/p>\n

\u201cOther sports have evolved and absorbed exciting, fast-paced, short form versions of themselves and had success,\u201d said McEvoy.<\/p>\n

\u201cSwimming needs to continue to test this within our own sport in the hope of finding a niche product that will excite the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event ahead of a home (Olympic) Games is also important. Brisbane 2032 will be special and the event will be bolstered by the knowledge of the stories going into them.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo getting to know these new athletes who may take a lane in 2032 is important.<\/p>\n

\u201cBringing in the 25m as an event is aligned with the trend of all sports where shorter, faster and closer competition is sought after.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, as the event starts to be taken seriously, it brings the sport a level of growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will only have a positive downstream impact for the Olympic 50m events that make up almost 20 per cent of the total medal tally.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrack (and Field) has the 60m indoor event and the 100m blue ribbon event, why can\u2019t swimming have the 25m?\u201d<\/p>\n
