The No. 4 Cal men\u2019s swimming & diving team opened the 2025-26 campaign with a dominating performance on the first day of the Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego, on Friday at Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla.<\/p>\n

The Golden Bears totaled four wins through six events, scoring 580 points, to lead all teams after the first day of the meet.<\/p>\n

Cal began the day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with the B-lineup of fifth-year Evan Petty<\/strong>, senior Luca Pusateri Gissendaner<\/strong>, sophomore August Vetsch<\/strong> and sophomore Nans Mazellier<\/strong>. The D-quartet of senior Tommy Roder<\/strong>, sophomore Zachary Tan<\/strong>, freshman Matteo<\/strong> Palmisani<\/strong> and junior Nikolas Antoniou<\/strong> followed behind to claim second.<\/p>\n

The Bears filled the top-five spots in the 500-yard freestyle, led by freshman Ryan Erisman who secured his first collegiate first-place finish after touching in a time of 4:15.50. Freshman Norvy Clont<\/strong>z made his college debut to take second (4.21.52) while junior Keaton Jones<\/strong> (4:25.80), sophomore Freddy Klein<\/strong> (4:27.02) and freshman Julien Rousseau<\/strong> (4:27.85) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n

In the 100-yard backstroke, Sophomore Lucca Battaglini s<\/strong>ecured his first individual first-place finish after touching first in a time of 48.21. Roder (48.73) and Petty (48.75) rounded out the top-three spots.<\/p>\n

Cal had four swimmers placed within the top-five in the 200-yard individual medley, led by reigning ACC Freshman of the Year, Yamato Okadome<\/strong>, who took second with a personal-best time of 1:47.59. Tan (1:48.26), freshman Kenny Barnicle<\/strong> (1:48.76) and freshman Caiden Bowers<\/strong> (1:49.13) followed to take third, fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n

Mazellier finished second in the 50-yard freestyle after clocking a time of 19.99. Freshman Casper<\/strong> Puggaard<\/strong> secured his first collegiate victory in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:43.90. Vetsch (1:46.05) and Palmisani (1:46.74) followed to take second and third place, respectively.<\/p>\n

    Cal women lead<\/h3>\n

    The California women’s swimming & diving team finished day one of the season-opening Triton Invitational with the lead after winning four of the six events. The Golden Bears (481) pace the five-team meet followed by Stanford (368) in second, UC San Diego (271.5) in third, Hawai’i (243.5) in fourth, and UC Santa Barbara (158) in fifth.<\/p>\n

    Cal opened the 2025-26 season with a win in the 200-yard IM relay with the ‘A’ team of Mary-Ambre<\/strong> Moluh<\/strong> (backstroke), Silje Slyngstadli<\/strong> (breaststroke), Annie Jia<\/strong> (butterfly), and Mia West<\/strong> (freestyle) finishing with a time of 1:37.69.<\/p>\n

    The Bears took the top four spots in the 500-yard freestyle with freshman Claire Weinstein<\/strong> winning the first race of her collegiate career with a time of 4:37.14. Fellow freshman Ella Cosgrove<\/strong> (4:39.47) finished in second place, sophomore Camille Henveaux<\/strong> (4:45.34) followed in third, and freshman Alexa McDevitt<\/strong> (4:45.52) set a new personal record to place fourth.<\/p>\n

    Moluh found herself atop the podium once again recording a 52.63 in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Ava Chavez<\/strong> (1:59.29) and freshman Elle Scott (<\/strong>2:00.89) followed that event by placing first and second, respectively, in the 200-yard IM.<\/p>\n

    West finished her day off with a second-place finish in the 50-yard free with a time of 22.82 and senior Sydney Griscavage<\/strong> finished just behind her in fourth with a 22.98.<\/p>\n
