{"id":623566,"date":"2025-10-08T18:27:47","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T01:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=623566"},"modified":"2025-10-08T18:27:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T01:27:47","slug":"walsh-university-names-josh-forsythe-inaugural-head-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/walsh-university-names-josh-forsythe-inaugural-head-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Walsh University Names Josh Forsythe Inaugural Head Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Walsh University Names Josh Forsythe Inaugural Head Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Walsh University last week named <strong>Josh Forsythe<\/strong> its inaugural head coach of men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving.<\/p>\n<p>The Division II program <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/division-ii-walsh-university-adds-mens-and-womens-swimming-and-diving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced in July<\/a> that it would add swimming and diving. Both teams will launch in the 2026-27 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Forsythe is a native of Canton, Ohio. He attended Ohio State, earning his bachelor\u2019s degree in 2012. He completed a teaching licensure program at Walsh from 2015-18.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a tremendous honor to be the first swim coach in Walsh history,\u201d Forsythe said <a href=\"https:\/\/athletics.walsh.edu\/news\/2025\/10\/3\/general-josh-forsythe-named-inaugural-head-coach-for-swim-and-dive-programs.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>. \u201cI&#8217;ve been blown away by the positive energy and excitement about this new program across campus and I can&#8217;t wait for our first season. I believe in running a process-driven program designed to put our swimmers and divers in the best position to succeed in the pool, in the classroom, and in life. Our program will be centered around strong work ethic, respect, and gratitude. We will be of service to our community and always strive to embody the values of the University. We&#8217;re going to grow this new program into a top destination in the world of swimming and diving. It&#8217;s a thrill to be here at the beginning, and I&#8217;m looking forward to welcoming our inaugural class of Walsh swimmers and divers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Josh Forsythe is the right leader to build our swimming and diving programs from the ground up,&#8221; said <strong>Christina Paone,<\/strong> Walsh Vice President for Athletics and Athletic Director. &#8220;His proven track record in coaching and program development will be invaluable as we establish competitive teams that align with Walsh&#8217;s commitment to excellence both on and off the pool deck.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Forsythe previously served as an assistant coach at Malone University. He was an assistant for Canton City Schools Swim Club and the Canton McKinley High, his alma mater.
