IRVINE, Calif., November 21. THE Stanford men's swimming team completed day one at the UCI Speedo Cup in Irvine, Calif. and led the field with a score of 583. BYU is second with 264 while CS Bakersfield is in third (262). Rounding out the top five are Pacific (156) and UCI (141).<\/p>\n
The Cardinal men opened the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:20.39. Stanford followed that with a one-two finish in the 500 free as Jayme Cramer (4:26.47) beat out teammate Michael McLean (4:31.18) for top honors.<\/p>\n
It was another one-two finish in the 200 IM as senior Markus Rogan took the title in a time of 1:46.49 followed by teammate Dan Trupin (1:49.22). Freshman Hongzhe Sun took third, clocking in at 1:49.44. In the 50 free, Peter Marshall edged teammate Ben Wildman-Tobriner (20.27) to take the crown in a time of 20.09.<\/p>\n
The Cardinal closed out day one with another relay win – this time in the 400 medley as Stanford turned in a time of 3:15.92 to take home another victory.<\/p>\n
The Oregon State women brought the first of three days to a close down in Long Beach, Calif. at the Speedo Cup, hosted by California-Irvine. The Beavers (2-2 overall, 0-1 Pacific-10) lead all schools with 357 points, the closest is California-San Diego with 315.5. Thursday's races included the 200-yard freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, and 400 medley relay. <\/p>\n
Touching the wall first for the Beavers were senior All-American Birte Steven in the 200 individual medley, junior Kristin Huston in the 50 freestyle, and the OSU "A" team in the 400 medley relay. Freshman Sandy Hong and the OSU "A" team took second in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay, respectively. <\/p>\n
The Beavers also managed to finish well behind the top racers. Junior Mari Embertson, and sophomores Christina Kinney and Monika Miroslaw rounded out the top ten finishes in the 200 individual medley with a third, eighth, and tenth place finish. Sophomore Ausra Pacebutaite and freshman Brie Marhenke finished fourth and eighth in the 50 freestyle to help the Beavers stay on top.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
