He joins the staff of new coach <strong>Michael Norment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>McHugh was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-champion-max-mchugh-retires-joins-colorado-college-as-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four-time NCAA champion in breaststroke<\/a> at the University of Minnesota. He coached last season at Colorado College and in 2023-24 at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, both in assistant coaching capacities.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>McHugh won four NCAA title, seven Big Ten championships and was a 10-time CSCAA All-American. The 2021 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year won the 100 breast three times in a row at NCAAs and did the breaststroke double at NCAAs in 2021. He swam through Olympic Trials in 2024, finishing 26th in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>McHugh is a native of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology and a master\u2019s degree in sports and fitness management administration from Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>Norment, formerly an associate head coach at Georgia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-norment-and-his-journey-to-notre-dame-the-people-make-this-place-special\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was hired as<\/a> Notre Dame\u2019s head coach in June when <strong>Chris Lindauer<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanford-hires-chris-lindauer-as-womens-head-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took the women\u2019s coaching job at Stanford<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Notre Dame Hires NCAA Champion Max McHugh as Assistant Coach Notre Dame on Wednesday announced the hiring of Max McHugh as an assistant coach.
