{"id":622761,"date":"2025-09-16T22:35:49","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T05:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=622761"},"modified":"2025-09-16T22:35:49","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T05:35:49","slug":"joel-rollings-named-inaugural-head-coach-at-marquette","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joel-rollings-named-inaugural-head-coach-at-marquette\/","title":{"rendered":"Joel Rollings Named Inaugural Head Coach at Marquette"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Joel Rollings Named Inaugural Head Coach at Marquette<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Marquette University on Monday named <strong>Joel Rollings<\/strong> the inaugural head coach of the women\u2019s swimming program.<\/p>\n<p>The Division I school announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marquette-to-add-varsity-womens-swimming-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intention to add swimming last May<\/a>. It will begin competition in the Big East in 2026-27. The team will not feature a diving program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am incredibly grateful to Athletic Director Mike Broeker and Senior Woman Administrator Danielle Josetti for the opportunity to establish Marquette\u2019s inaugural women\u2019s swimming program,\u201d Rollings said <a href=\"https:\/\/gomarquette.com\/news\/2025\/9\/15\/joel-rollings-named-head-womens-swimming-coach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be a part of Marquette\u2019s rich athletic legacy and contribute to its continued growth and success.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-east-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big East Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rollings spent the last two years as the head coach at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, where he founded men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming teams. The program was recognized as the most improved in Division III in 2024-25, and he was named Liberal Arts Conference Men\u2019s Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Rollings spent the bulk of his coaching tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, from 2006-18. He mentored two NCAA champion, 13 individual and three relay All-Americans and 56 WIAC champions. That includes NCAA record-holder <strong>Amy Spaay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Rollings spent a year at the University Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2018-19. He was a student-athlete at Milwaukee, graduating in 1995 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in kinesiology. He received a master\u2019s degree at TCU in 1998, where he was a graduate assistant with the men\u2019s team. His father, <strong>Harry Rollings,<\/strong> was a psychology professor at Marquette from 1973-80.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to welcome Joel as the first head coach of Marquette women\u2019s swimming,\u201d Director of Athletics <strong>Mike Broeker<\/strong> said. \u201cHe rose quickly to the top of a very competitive candidate pool, and for good reason\u2014his track record of building and growing programs speaks for itself. Just as importantly, he has shown a deep care for his student-athletes, investing in their growth as people through the sport they love.
