World Junior Championships, Day Six Prelims: John Shortt Leads 200 Backstroke; Americans Top 200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final session of preliminaries at the World Junior Championships will be heavy on 200-meter events, with the men’s 200 backstroke jumpstarting action in Otopeni, Romania. Ireland’s John Shortt is the top seed in the 200 back and has already medaled in the other two backstroke distances. Shortt was the champion in the 100 back and grabbed the bronze medal in the 50 backstroke.<\/p>\n

The women’s 200 breaststroke and men’s 200 butterfly will be the second and third events of the session, followed by the women’s 200 freestyle. China’s Yang Peiqi is the top seed in the 200 free, but will be challenged by American Rylee Erisman, who won gold in the 100 free and has the final of the 50 freestyle on Sunday night. Prelims of the men’s and women’s 400 medley relays will also be held, along with the slowest heats of the men’s 1500 freestyle.<\/p>\n
