{"id":620856,"date":"2025-08-14T20:36:54","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T03:36:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=620856"},"modified":"2025-08-14T20:36:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T03:36:54","slug":"florida-hires-kristin-walker-as-associate-head-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/florida-hires-kristin-walker-as-associate-head-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Hires Kristin Walker as Associate Head Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Florida Hires Kristin Walker as Associate Head Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University of Florida on Thursday announced the hiring of <strong>Kristin Walker<\/strong> as an associate head coach for the swimming and diving program.<\/p>\n<p>Walker arrives in Gainesville after six seasons as the associate head coach and women\u2019s recruiting coordinator at the University of Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very excited to join the incredible staff and team at Florida,\u201d Walker said <a href=\"https:\/\/floridagators.com\/news\/2025\/8\/14\/kristin-walker-joins-florida-swimming-diving-as-associate-head-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cThank you to Coach Nesty, Mike Spiegler, and the swimming and diving staff for their trust in giving me this opportunity. It is a humbling privilege to be able to contribute to such a respected program. Go Gators!\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Walker recruited 11 Mountain West and WAC Conference champions in her time in Laramie, as well as a qualifier for Olympic Trials in 2024 and NCAAs in 2025. She was named one of the American Swimming Coaches Association\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/asca-announces-2025-list-of-tyr-30-under-30-coaches-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">30 Under 30 Award recipients in June<\/a>. She also received a Jean Freeman Scholarship in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Walker was an assistant coach at Georgia Southern for three seasons, managing recruiting, training and travel coordination. She worked with coach <strong>Dennis Pursley<\/strong> at the Alabama Rising Tide Swim Camp in 2018 as well as the U.S. Air Force Academy summer camp and as an assistant coach with Altitude Performance in Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n<p>Walker swam at the University of New Mexico, graduating in 2016. The Colorado Springs native set the program record in the 200 breaststroke. She was a team captain and qualified as a scholar athlete award winner and for the Mountain West Championships team each of her four years.<\/p>\n<p>Walker holds bachelor\u2019s degrees in speech and hearing sciences and psychology from New Mexico and a master\u2019s degree in special education from Georgia Southern.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to welcome Kristin to our staff as associate head coach,\u201d head coach <strong>Anthony Nesty<\/strong> said. \u201cHer gift of connecting with athletes and helping them realize their potential, both in the pool and in life is something every championship program is built on.
