The question: Can they be faster at night? Curry (100 freestyle) and Dressel (50 butterfly) will chase qualification to the Pan Pacific Championships during Thursday night&#8217;s finals at the William Woollett Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n<p>Curry needs to be faster than 47.58 to secure a spot in the 100 freestyle while Dressel needs to better 23.21 in the 50 butterfly. Both marks are within reach for the Americans. A two-time Olympian, Curry owns a personal best of 47.90. De Lutiis, the runnerup in the 50 freestyle earlier in the meet, stopped the clock in 54.36, which was slightly quicker than the 54.45 of Sims. Curry was out in a quick 22.64, building a considerable advantage on the field at the midway point, and while the opposition closed down the stretch, Curry was able to get his hand on the wall first. A two-time Olympian, Curry will have the 200 freestyle on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Just .03 separated the second through fourth-place finisher, with <strong>Julian Koch<\/strong> taking runnerup honors in 48.57. The winner of the 200 IM earlier in the meet, Kozan posted a time of 4:40.44, which was better than the 4:43.72 of Australia&#8217;s <strong>Kayla Hardy<\/strong>. Hochwalt registered a swim of 4:11.46, equal to Charlie Swanson in U.S. history. Hochwalt was out in 56.39 and came through the midway point of the race in 2:00.91. He touched at the 300-meter mark in 3:12.91 and closed with a freestyle split of 58.55.<\/p>\n<p>Second place went to <strong>David Johnston<\/strong>, as the Team USA member clocked 4:12.55. Armbruster went 23.10 in the prelims, so his performance wasn&#8217;t unsurprising, and it backed up a victory in the 100 fly on Wednesday night. In the longer distance, Armbruster went 50.91.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing second in 23.28 was <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>, who was contending for a spot to next year&#8217;s Pan Pacific Championships. Matching his time from the morning, Dressel finished .07 shy of the 23.21 by <strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> earlier this year, a scenario which will leave Andrew on the Pan Pacs squad for 2026. Day was timed in 1:00.16, which was .13 swifter than the 1:00.29 of <strong>Erika Pelaez<\/strong>. Chaney touched the wall in 53.59 to place ahead of top seed <strong>Jack Wilkening<\/strong>, who went 53.90.
