The times posted by athletes at the United States Nationals, World Championships and World University Games will largely determine who will represent the United States in next summer&#8217;s international competition.<\/p>\n<p>But there are still two chances for swimmers to earn a spot on the American Pan Pacs roster &#8211; this week&#8217;s TYR Summer Championships in Southern California and the upcoming World Junior Championships in Romania. The TYR Championships opened with preliminaries this morning at the William Woollett Aquatic Center, with finals scheduled for 5 p.m. (Pacific). The meet will run through Friday and will feature the likes of Caeleb Dressel, Hunter Armstrong, Alex Shackell and Bella Sims.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an event-by-event recap for the Day One prelims:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/event\/2025\/08\/05\/default-calendar\/TYR-Pro-Championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Page<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Individual Medley<\/h3>\n<p>Behind a strong breaststroke leg, <strong>Justina Kozan<\/strong> landed the top seed for the final of the 200 individual medley. Kozan touched the wall in 2:13.58, an effort that was fueled by her breaststroke leg of 38.66. Kozan was followed in the No. 2 position by Australian <strong>Kayla Hardy<\/strong>, who went 2:14.60 in the morning. Grabbing the third seed and final time under 2:25 was <strong>Summer<\/strong> <strong>Cardwell<\/strong> (2:14.99).<\/p>\n<p>Coming off a lengthy flight home from the World Championships in Singapore, <strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> was ninth-fastest in prelims, going 2:18.51. Racing in the last of three heats, Smith posted a time of 1:57.95, the only morning effort under the two-minute barrier. Smith is also schedule to race the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle, his prime events, this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Hochwalt<\/strong> and <strong>Grant House<\/strong>, both from Sun Devil Swimming, tied for the second seed with matching marks of 2:00.55. Mishler checked in with a prelims outing of 25.04, which left her nearly a quarter-second ahead of the 25.28 from Australia&#8217;s <strong>Jaime De Lutiis<\/strong>. Jack, the brother of Olympic gold medalist Shayna Jack, produced a time of 21.63, which was .03 off his previous top time. Harben recorded a swim of 31.31, which put her ahead of the 31.53 from <strong>Hannah Bach<\/strong>. Mathias finished comfortably ahead of the field, as the No. 2 qualifier for the final was <strong>Pavel Romanov<\/strong>, who went 27.52.
