The number of individual scratches is now at four, joining <strong>Claire Weinstein<\/strong> in the 400 free and <strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> in the 100 fly, plus a few relay alterations. That includes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-u-s-mixed-medley-misses-final-as-struggles-continue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a mixed medley relay that bombed out of prelims<\/a> in 10th place.<\/p>\n<p>Other swimmers have continued with their programs but had uncharacteristically slow times that show the effect of illness. Others have recovered, such as Weinstein, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-four-finals-mollie-ocallaghan-unleashes-her-superpowers-to-claim-second-200-freestyle-world-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won a bronze medal in the 200 free<\/a>. Scratches on Day 5 of the meet would seem to indicate otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh was scratched from the final of the 400 freestyle relay early in the meet, with <strong>Erin Gemmell<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/on-standby-duty-erin-gemmell-comes-through-for-team-usa-in-400-freestyle-relay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stepping in<\/a> as the favorites earned silver behind Australia. Walsh went a meet record 54.73 seconds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-2-finals-gretchen-walsh-stands-and-delivers-100-butterfly-gold-in-sizzling-54-73\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to win the 100 fly<\/a>. Her scratch scuppers a battle with 200 free champ <strong>Mollie O\u2019Callaghan.<\/strong> Walsh was eighth in the 100 free at the Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Matheny finished seventh in the men\u2019s 100 breaststroke on Monday.
