He arrives from within the Landmark Conference, having been the head coach at Wilkes University for three seasons.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/ncaa-division-iii-coverage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAA Division III Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m incredibly honored and excited to accept the position of Head Coach and Aquatics Director at The Catholic University of America- a school with top-tier academic offerings, a beautiful campus in one of the world&#8217;s most vibrant cities, and outstanding athletic facilities,&#8221; Paynter said <a href=\"https:\/\/catholicathletics.com\/news\/2025\/7\/17\/mens-swimming-and-diving-catholic-tabs-chris-paynter-as-new-head-swimming-diving-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>. &#8220;I want to extend my sincere thanks to Jordan Hoover, Kevin Robinson, and the entire search committee for this amazing opportunity to elevate my career. From the moment I stepped on campus, I could feel the energy and momentum surrounding Catholic&#8217;s athletics department. There&#8217;s a clear, shared commitment to excellence by every person I&#8217;ve met in elevating all programs to the next level. Catholic has everything it needs to achieve its goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paynter led Wilkes\u2019 men\u2019s team to an 8-2 record in dual meets last season, placing sixth in the Division III Landmark Conference championships (which was won for the ninth straight year by Catholic.) He leaves the school with its largest recruiting class in program history for this season. He\u2019s also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Palmyra Aquatic Club working with its senior group.<\/p>\n<p>Paynter began coaching in the fall of 2021 at Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges as an assistant coach. He also served as an intern strength coach.<\/p>\n<p>Paynter swam at Villanova University, where he was a six-time Big East performer. He earned six individual Big East medals and was part of two Big East championship relays.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are thrilled to have Chris join our Catholic Athletics Family,&#8221; athletic director <strong>Chris Robinson<\/strong> said. &#8220;He brings strong experience as a head coach in the Landmark Conference and his desire to take our championship-level program to the next level stood out throughout the process.
