World Champs Profile: Angharad Evans Ready to Scale Global Breaststroke Podium<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leading into the start of the World Championships later this month, Swimming World will publish a handful of short profiles on top contenders for the podium in Singapore. Our next entry in this series features Great Britain\u2019s Angharad Evans, a rapidly improving 22-year-old who made the final of the 100 breaststroke at last summer\u2019s Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

The Road to Singapore<\/h3>\n

When Evans raced at the Paris Olympics, it marked her first major competition. The Scot acquitted herself well under pressure, as she placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke. Since that breakthrough, Evans has continued her development as a world-class breaststroker. She is ranked first in the world in the 100 breast at 1:05.37 and sits third in the 200 breaststroke, from a time of 2:21.86.<\/p>\n

Top Career Achievement<\/h3>\n

While Evans is light on international experience, her ascension up the breaststroke ladder has suggested some major accomplishments on the horizon. Her Olympic appearance stands as her defining moment in the sport to date. En route to her sixth-place showing in Paris, Evans finished just .26 out of the medals and had her fastest swim of the meet in the final.<\/p>\n

Previous World Champs Hardware<\/h3>\n

Evans has never competed at the long-course version of the World Championships, but she raced at the World Short Course Champs at the end of 2024. In Budapest, Evans handled the breaststroke leg on the British 400 medley relay that earned the silver medal behind the United States. She was also seventh in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n

Stat Fact<\/h3>\n

By setting a British record of 1:05.37 earlier this year, Evans moved to No. 14 in the all-time rankings. Meanwhile, her improvement in the 200 breaststroke has been astounding, as she has cut more than three seconds from her best time in 2024 to the 2:21 effort she churned out at the British Champs.<\/p>\n
