NEW YORK, November 14. ASPHALT Green's Third Annual \u201cSwim for the Future\u201d featuring eight-time Olympic medalist Gary Hall, Jr., takes place this weekend. It will be held from 6-10 pm on Saturday, November 15th, at Asphalt Green, 555 East 90th Street, in New York.<\/p>\n
The event raises fund for The Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang Scholarship Fund, two Masters Swimmers who died two years ago in the Arab terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on 9-11. <\/p>\n
A ceremony featuring Olympian Gary Hall, Jr. will be held at 8:00 pm. <\/p>\n
The Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang Scholarship Fund provides financial support each year to young competitive swimmers who are dedicated and passionate about swimming, but have a limited financial capacity to pursue their dreams. A portion of the proceeds also provides swim scholarships to children who lost their parents in the World Trade Center attack. <\/p>\n
Swim For The Future assures that Andrew and Doug's commitment to swimming, fitness and leadership be forever remembered. Not only did Andrew and Doug excel at swimming, they were passionate about the importance it has on attaining a healthy lifestyle. They were both generous supporters of Asphalt Green's Waterproofing Program, a partnership with the NYC public schools that teaches inner city school children to swim. Learning to swim not only teaches children a survival skill, it increases self-esteem, teaches discipline and the importance of hard work and perservance in attaining goals. <\/p>\n
For additional info, click on: Hall, who just returned from a two-meet tour of Europe, is in New York to do several charity appearances as well as record a radio spot in support of \u201cNYC 2012\u201d \u2013 New York City\u2019s bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n This morning he appeared on \u201cCold Pizza,\u201d the popular ESPN2 morning show, where he spoke about diabetes (November is National Diabetes Month), Swim for the Future, his formation of the Race Club and his own plans to make his third US Olympic team in 2004.<\/p>\n In addition, Hall served as ESPN2\u2019s weatherman this morning.
