{"id":616345,"date":"2025-07-03T11:11:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T18:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=616345"},"modified":"2025-07-03T11:11:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T18:11:17","slug":"kevin-walsh-hired-as-bentley-swimming-and-diving-head-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kevin-walsh-hired-as-bentley-swimming-and-diving-head-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Kevin Walsh Hired as Bentley Swimming and Diving Head Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kevin Walsh Hired as Bentley Swimming and Diving Head Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kevin Walsh<\/strong> was hired on Wednesday as the head coach of Bentley University\u2019s swimming and diving team.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh succeeds <strong>Mary Kay Samko<\/strong>, who led Bentley for 29 seasons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/legendary-bentley-coach-mary-kay-samko-announces-retirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">before retiring at the conclusion<\/a> of the 2024-25 season.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh has spent most of his career in the Northeast 10 Conference. He swam at the defunct College of Saint Rose for four seasons, serving as a team captain his senior season. He coached at his alma mater for three seasons, one as an assistant before guiding the final two seasons of the program as head coach.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/ncaa-division-ii-coverage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAA Division II Swimming Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI am incredibly excited to join Bentley University and return to the NE10 &#8211; a conference I know well from both my time as a student-athlete and as a head coach at The College of Saint Rose,\u201d Walsh said <a href=\"https:\/\/bentleyfalcons.com\/news\/2025\/7\/2\/general-walsh-named-head-coach-for-swimming-diving.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>. \u201cI understand what it takes to build a winning culture in this conference, and I\u2019m committed to carrying forward the legacy of excellence that Mary Kay established here. Her impact on this program is undeniable, and I\u2019m honored to continue that tradition while bringing new energy and vision to Falcons swimming and diving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walsh spent last season as an assistant coach at Division III Union College in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in mathematics and a master\u2019s degree in education. He has taught as an adjunct professor at both Saint Rose and Siena College.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s inheriting a Bentley women\u2019s program that has finished second in the Northeast 10 for four consecutive years, producing the last two conference Divers of the Year and two of the last three Women\u2019s Swimmers of the Year.
