She will be a medal favorite in three individual events, but she has now dropped a potential fourth race, the 200 freestyle, from her schedule.<\/p>\n<p>At U.S. Nationals last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-day-1-finals-torri-huske-takes-down-gretchen-walsh-in-100-free-final-breaks-u-s-open-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she won the 100 free in the fastest time in the world<\/a> while taking second in the 100 fly and 50 free and third in the 200 free. The latter result inserted Huske <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/us-nationals-why-200-free-was-more-exciting-for-torri-huske-than-100-free-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">into the mix for the U.S. women&#8217;s 800 free relay for the first time<\/a>. When <strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>declined the individual spot, Huske received the nod, but after further consideration of the busy racing schedule ahead, she decided to skip the event, allowing <strong>Erin Gemmell<\/strong> to move into that spot.<\/p>\n<p>Gemmell earns the chance in the individual event after she tied with <strong>Anna Peplowski<\/strong> for fourth in the 200 free at Nationals and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-day-5-finals-mckenzie-siroky-punches-worlds-ticket-with-swim-off-win-erin-gemmell-tops-200-free-tiebreaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">then won a swim-off against Peplowski on the meet&#8217;s final night<\/a>. The swim-off was officially meant to determine the fourth automatic qualifying spot for Worlds as well as next year&#8217;s Pan Pacific Championships, but several weeks remained until the entry deadline for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaquatics.com\/competitions\/4725\/world-aquatics-championships-singapore-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Championships<\/a>. That meant Huske still had time to make a final decision about her Singapore lineup, and withdrawing from the four-lap race had always been a possibility.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second consecutive year that\u00a0Gemmell will swim the individual 200 free at the summer&#8217;s major international competition despite finishing fourth at the selection meet. In 2024, Ledecky and\u00a0<strong>Paige Madden<\/strong> both turned down the chance to swim the event, and Gemmell ended up ninth in the Olympic semifinal before helping the U.S. women to a relay silver medal.<\/p>\n<p>This decision by Huske does not impact the roster for the 800 free relay, which is slated to include\u00a0<strong>Claire Weinstein<\/strong>, Ledecky, Huske, Gemmell, Peplowski and\u00a0<strong>Bella Sims<\/strong>, with\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong> also on the team and a strong seventh option if needed.<\/p>\n<p>The final American roster for the World Championships, now updated to include Gemmell in the 200 free, is available <a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2025-worlds-roster-usa.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Torri Huske Drops 200 Freestyle From Worlds Lineup;
