The 22-year-old from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, clocked in at 39.66 seconds in the morning prelims. That erased the record of 40.22 seconds set by Spain\u2019s <strong>Marta Fernandez Infante<\/strong> at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics.<\/p>\n<p>Kubiak went lower still at night, breaking 39 seconds with a time of 38.96. She also won the women\u2019s S4 50 backstroke in 42.14 seconds.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usparaswimming.org\/competitions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2025 National Championships Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/paralympics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paraswimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Elsewhere on the first day of swimming action in the three-day meet at Idaho Central Aquatic Center in Boise, Boyd opened the morning with a world record in the SM10 400 individual medley. He went 4:45.83 in prelims, taking down the mark held since 2014 by American <strong>Ian Silverman<\/strong> at 4:53.24.<\/p>\n<p>Boyd, 16, also won the S10 400 freestyle in 4:08.99, his winning margin some 40 seconds, and the S10 100 fly in 57.85, as the only swimmer in his class to break a minute.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gray Rutledge<\/strong> lowered her American record in the S2 50 back with a time of 1:07.78, four seconds faster than her previous mark. She was second to Kubiak in the event, with all events swim in multi-class format and winners determined by World Para Swimming points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summer Schmit<\/strong> won the multi-class women\u2019s 400 free, the S9 swimming clocking in at 5:01.28.<\/p>\n<p>Boyd was the winner in the men\u2019s 400 free. Second was <strong>Noah Jaffe,<\/strong> the S8 swimmer going 4:41.67.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liz Smith<\/strong> won the S9 100 fly, her time of 1:10.88 the best of five competitors. <strong>Taylor Winnett<\/strong> won the S10 race in 1:10.73, while <strong>Abby Kershaw<\/strong> bested <strong>Piper Sadowski<\/strong> by a half-second in the S14 race.<\/p>\n<p>Paralympic gold medalist <strong>Ellie Marks<\/strong> set a quick time in the S6 50 fly of 41.03, the 34-year-old the only competitor in her class.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katie Kubiak, Koehn Boyd Open Paralympic National Championships with World Records Katie Kubiak and Koehn Boyd began the 2025 U.S. Paralympics Swimming National Championships with world records on Friday.
