Tennessee Extends Contract of Head Coach Matt Kredich<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the second straight summer<\/a>, Tennessee has extended the contract of head men\u2019s and women\u2019s swim coach Matt Kredich.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kredich\u2019s contract now runs through April 2030. He\u2019s been at the helm of the women\u2019s team since April 2005 and took over the combined men\u2019s and women\u2019s position in 2012.<\/p>\n

“Matt is undeniably one of the top coaches in the sport, having elevated our swimming and diving program to one of the premier teams in the country,” Tennessee Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Danny White<\/strong> said in a press release<\/a>. “Under his leadership, we have consistently set new standards and are on a clear path to continue our pursuit of championships on Rocky Top!”<\/p>\n

Tennessee placed fifth in both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s NCAA Championships. It\u2019s the third straight year both programs have finished in the top 10 at NCAAs, something the Volunteers hadn\u2019t ever done before 2023. Kredich is a four-time SEC Coach of the Year, guiding the Lady Vols to conference crowns in 2020 and 2022.<\/p>\n

Tennessee won 12 NCAA medals combined and three NCAA titles \u2013 the men\u2019s 50 free (Jordan Crooks<\/strong>) and 200 free and 400 free relays. Crooks set the NCAA record in the 100 free, and both victorious relays set NCAA marks. Tennessee had 12 gold and 28 total medals at SECs in the first year of its expanded field.<\/p>\n

“I am so grateful to Dr. Danny White and to the leadership of this amazing university for extending their commitment to me and to our staff to lead the Tennessee Swimming and Diving program,” Kredich said. “As the collegiate athletics landscape changes, I’m thrilled to be part of a visionary university that is committed to leading the way in collegiate athletics, and to be able to coach, guide, and mentor the incredible student athletes that have been and continue to be part of this program.<\/p>\n

“The support that this university has given to our program has allowed us to create some incredible moments and achievements during my time here, and we are so excited to create even more as we pursue the highest levels of swimming and diving. The support that this university has given to me and to my family during our time here, especially over the past two years, has been one of the great gifts of my lifetime, and I remain deeply committed to and proud to give my all for Tennessee.”<\/p>\n

Kredich has coached 24 Olympians at Tennessee. At the Paris Olympics, 17 swimmers with Tennessee ties competed. That includes Crooks, Brazilian international Gui Caribe<\/strong> and a sizeable contingent of the Canadian women’s team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
