{"id":613393,"date":"2025-06-05T07:46:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T14:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=613393"},"modified":"2025-06-05T09:58:40","modified_gmt":"2025-06-05T16:58:40","slug":"u-s-nationals-day-3-womens-prelims-gretchen-walsh-goes-fourth-fastest-time-ever-in-100-fly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-day-3-womens-prelims-gretchen-walsh-goes-fourth-fastest-time-ever-in-100-fly\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Nationals Day 3 Women&#8217;s Prelims: Gretchen Walsh Goes Fourth-Fastest Time Ever in 100 Fly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>U.S. Nationals Day 3 Women&#8217;s Prelims: Gretchen Walsh Goes Fourth-Fastest Time Ever in 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2025 U.S. National Championships continued from Indianapolis with the prelims of Day 3.<\/p>\n<p>The Day 3 events are the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 50 breaststroke and 50 backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a look at the women&#8217;s prelims from Thursday:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2025-us-national-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2025\/world-champs-team-trials-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>US Nationals: Women&#8217;s 400 IM<\/h2>\n<p>The first circle-seeded heat saw <strong>Emma Weyant<\/strong> out to an early lead over <strong>Zoe Dixon<\/strong> and continue that lead the entire race. Weyant built her lead through the breaststroke leg and built it in the freestyle. She got to the wall in 4:40.01. Dixon was second in 4:44.84.<\/p>\n<p>The final heat saw <strong>Caroline Bricker<\/strong> take the early lead after the butterfly but <strong>Katie Grimes<\/strong> quickly took the lead in the first few meters of the backstroke leg. <strong>Audrey Derivaux<\/strong> was hanging with Grimes by the end of the backstroke and the start of the breaststroke leg. Derivaux took the lead at the breaststroke turn the <strong>Leah Hayes<\/strong> took over the lead by the end of the breaststroke ahead of Derivaux and Grimes. She has announced that this will be her final season swimming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>McKenzie Siroky<\/strong> won her heat to take the second seed into finals at 30.27.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Piper Enge<\/strong> took the third spot at 30.65, ahead of <strong>Emma Weber<\/strong> (30.66),<strong> Lucy Thomas<\/strong> (30.84) and <strong>Alex Walsh<\/strong> U.S. Open record holder (<strong>Katharine Berkoff<\/strong>) plus a handful of Olympians.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leah Shackley<\/strong> went 27.60 ahead of Smith (27.74) in their heat.<\/p>\n<p>Berkoff went a 27.15, missing the American record by five hundredths and her U.S. Open record by three hundredths.<\/p>\n<p>Curzan was second in 27.45, followed by Shackley, <strong>Kaitlyn Owen<\/strong>
