U.S. Nationals: 800 Freestyle Relay Spots Up For Grabs Wednesday Night (Finals Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Wednesday evening finals session at U.S. Nationals will include the women’s and men’s 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 50 butterfly. The five-day meet is being held at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

In the women’s 200 free final,\u00a0Katie Ledecky<\/strong> holds the top seed, but she will have to deal with\u00a0Claire Weinstein<\/strong> and\u00a0Erin Gemmell<\/strong> on either side of her in the final. Olympic-gold-medal winners\u00a0Simone Manuel<\/strong> and\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> also made the field. In the men’s race,\u00a0Luke Hobson<\/strong> is the favorite, but anyone could secure spots on the 800 free relay after a time of 1:46.20 was required to reach the top-eight.<\/p>\n

Kate Douglass<\/strong> is the clear favorite in the women’s 200 breast, with teammate\u00a0Alex Walsh<\/strong> in lane five and three other Virginia Cavaliers in the middle of the pool. The men’s event was led by\u00a0AJ Pouch<\/strong> in the morning while\u00a0Gabe Nunziata\u00a0<\/strong>claimed second, with Olympic finalist\u00a0Josh Matheny<\/strong> looming in lane six.<\/p>\n

Charlotte Crush<\/strong> and\u00a0Leah Shackley<\/strong> have the middle lanes in the women’s 200 back final after standout morning performances, but there are four Olympians in the field:\u00a0Regan Smith<\/strong>,\u00a0Phoebe Bacon<\/strong>,\u00a0Claire Curzan<\/strong> and\u00a0Rhyan White<\/strong>. The men’s field sees\u00a0Jack Aikins<\/strong> as the clear favorite after he dominated prelims, with\u00a0Daniel Diehl<\/strong> in lane five and Olympic finalist\u00a0Keaton Jones<\/strong> lurking from lane two.<\/p>\n

Finally,\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> and\u00a0Dare Rose<\/strong> are the top-seeded swimmers in their respective 50 fly races. Walsh could break her own American record in the evening session after finishing five hundredths short in prelims.<\/p>\n
