{"id":613058,"date":"2025-06-04T07:56:16","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T14:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=613058"},"modified":"2025-06-04T09:57:24","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T16:57:24","slug":"u-s-nationals-day-2-mens-prelims-luke-hobson-leads-scorching-200-free-field","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-day-2-mens-prelims-luke-hobson-leads-scorching-200-free-field\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Nationals Day 2 Men&#8217;s Prelims: Luke Hobson, Jack Aikins Showcase Speed, Earn Top Seeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>U.S. Nationals Day 2 Men&#8217;s Prelims: Luke Hobson Leads Scorching 200 Free Field<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The 2025 U.S. National Championships continued from Indianapolis with the Day 2 prelims.<\/p>\n<p>The events are the 200 free, 200 breast, 200 back and 50 butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a look at the men&#8217;s prelims events.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2025-us-national-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2025\/world-champs-team-trials-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 200 Free<\/h2>\n<p>The fireworks started in the circle-seeded heats.<\/p>\n<p>The first circle-seeded heat went to <strong>Kieran Smith<\/strong> (1:46.05) to hold off <strong>Henry McFadden<\/strong> (1:46.13) and <strong>Carson Foster<\/strong> (1:46.18), as the entire heat closed strong.<\/p>\n<p>The second circle-seeded heat went to <strong>Chris Guiliano<\/strong> in 1:46.20, ahead of <strong>Daniel Diehl<\/strong> (1:46.70).<\/p>\n<p>The final heat went to <strong>Luke Hobson<\/strong> in 1:44.78, the second-fastest time in the world this year. <strong>Gabriel Jett<\/strong> and <strong>Rex Maurer<\/strong> tied for second at 1:45.46.<\/p>\n<p>Hobson took the top seed into finals at U.S. Nationals, with Maurer and Jett tied for second.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lukas Mijatovic<\/strong> finished fourth and broke the 15-16 NAG by more than a second, getting to the wall in 1:45.92.<\/p>\n<p>Smith was fifth, followed by McFadden, Foster and Guiliano.<\/p>\n<p>Just how fast was the morning? He was ahead at the 100 and continued to build and was well ahead of the rest of the field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will Modglin<\/strong> had some outside smoke from Lane 8 and finished second behind Aikins in the heat in 1:58.27.<\/p>\n<p>In the final heat, <strong>Daniel Diehl f<\/strong>inished in 1:57.12, ahead of <strong>Micheal Hochwalt<\/strong> (1:57.27).<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn&#8217;t enough to catch Aikins, who is the top seed by nearly two seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kieran Smith, Destin Lasco<\/strong> and <strong>Luke Ellis<\/strong> scratched the event.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" first circle-seeded heat, ahead of <strong>Jonny Kulow<\/strong> (23.74).<\/p>\n<p>The next heat went to <strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> in 23.34 who held off <strong>Will Hayon<\/strong> (23.58).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shaine Casas<\/strong> took care of business in the final heat in 23.10, setting up a fun final.<\/p>\n<p>Casas took the top seed overall, ahead of Rose, Andrew, P<strong>J Foy<\/strong> (23.48), Hayon, <strong>Thomas Heilman<\/strong> (23.61), Kulow and <strong>Kamal Muhammad<\/strong> (23.84).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
