University of the Pacific to Restart Men\u2019s, Women\u2019s Diving<\/strong><\/p>\n

The University of the Pacific last week announced a plan to revive its men\u2019s and women\u2019s diving programs starting in the fall.<\/p>\n

The diving programs will join the formation of men\u2019s cross country program, a men\u2019s track and field program and an expansion of the women\u2019s field program. The California university\u2019s decision is a response to changes in collegiate sports<\/a>, billing it as an \u201cinnovative expansion as part of a long-term plan to position Pacific as a leading competitor in the West Coast Conference while supporting the university\u2019s enrollment initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe owe it to our student-athletes, campus and community to come up with a way to navigate these changes not by cutting, but by growing,\u201d athletic director Adam Tschuor<\/strong> said in a university statement<\/a>. \u201cThese sports additions are the first step in a plan of growth that will transform Pacific for the better\u2014in enrollment, campus life, engagement and competitive success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pacific has men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming already. (Among its former coaches are Greg Meehan, Ray Looze<\/strong> and hall of fame water polo coach John Tanner<\/strong>.) Those programs are led by Katelyne Herrington,<\/strong> who has been in charge since 2019 and will oversee the diving addition.
