Anastasia Gorbenko & Ilya Shymanovich Enjoy Winning Doubles At Mare Nostrum<\/h4>\n

Anastasia Gorbenko<\/strong> and Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> each enjoyed two trips to the top of the podium on the second day of the Mare Nostrum meet in Monaco.<\/p>\n

Gorbenko won two titles in around 20 minutes. First up was the 200IM, clocking 2:10.18 ahead of 400IM winner Cyrielle Duhamel<\/strong> (2:12.30) and Sara Franceschi<\/strong> (2:12.98). The Israeli returned for the 50 back head to head where she again touched first in 27.55 ahead of Ingrid Wilm (27.65). Wilm had earlier been\u00a0the only woman inside a minute in the 100 back when she touched in 59.62 ahead of Pauline Mahieu<\/strong> (1:00.08) and Adela Piskorska<\/strong> (1:00.72).<\/p>\n

Shymanovich won the men’s 100m breaststroke in 59.77 with Olympic champion Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> making headway on the second 50 albeit not enough to challenge the Belarus swimmer who’s competing in Monaco as a neutral athlete. The Italian stopped the clock in 59.94 with Ludovico Viberti<\/strong> third home in 1:00.44. Shymanovich and Viberti were back for the skins final which the former won in 26.59 to 26.80.<\/p>\n

Benedetta Pilato<\/strong> won the women’s 50 breast in 29.90, a day after she went 29.87 in prelims to elevate herself to second in the rankings behind Eneli Jefimova<\/strong> who went 29.83 last month. Anna Elendt<\/strong> was second in 30.29, 0.19 off her German record of 30.10.<\/p>\n

Milou van Wijk<\/strong> twice visited the rostrum on Sunday. First up was the 100 free in which Siobhan Haughey<\/strong> came from 0.13 down at the turn to add the title to her 200 gold. The two-time Olympic medallist over 100m overhauled Van Wijk on the second 50 for victory in 53.58 to 53.76 with Italian Sara Curtis<\/strong> third in 54.69. Van Wijk then returned for the 50 free duel with Beryl Gastaldello<\/strong> which the Netherlands swimmer clinched in 24.51 to 24.87.<\/p>\n

Ksawery Masiuk<\/strong> also made two trips to the podium. First up was the 200 back where the first three men home were separated by 0.34. Mathys Chouchaoui<\/strong> was the man to get the touch in 1:58.62 as Christian Bacico<\/strong> and Masiuk charged down the final 50 to stop the clock in 1:58.78 and 1:58.96 respectively. He returned for the head to head with Kliment Kolesnikov<\/strong> in the 50 back final where the world record-holder set a meet mark of 24.44 to the Pole’s 24.76.<\/p>\n

Szebasztian Szabo<\/strong> won the men’s 50 free, getting his hand to the wall 0.05 ahead of Leonardo Deplano<\/strong> in 22.01 to 22.06.<\/p>\n

Siobhan Haughey Clinches Freestyle Double<\/h3>\n

Siobhan Haughey<\/strong> came from 0.13 down at the turn to add the women’s 100 free title to her 200 gold. The two-time Olympic medallist over 100m overhauled Milou van Wijk<\/strong> on the second 50 for victory in 53.58 to 53.76 with Italian Sara Curtis<\/strong> third in 54.69.<\/p>\n

Kamil Sieradzki<\/strong> won the men’s 200 free in 1:48.36 with Tokyo Olympic champion Tom Dean<\/strong> next home in 1:48.91 and Lewis Clareburt<\/strong> concluding a busy day in third (1:49.14). The New Zealander had opened the session with victory in the 400IM in 4:17.14.<\/p>\n

Alina Zmushka<\/strong> shared the 100m breaststroke title with Elendt\u00a0on the opening day and returned on Sunday for the 200. The neutral athlete led throughout to lift the crown in 2:25.29 ahead of Rebecca Meder<\/strong> (2:25.77).<\/p>\n

Lilou Ressencourt<\/strong> pulled away on the third 50 of the women’s 200 fly for a comprehensive victory in 2:09.79 with Lana Pudar<\/strong> next home in 2:13.29,\u00a0Michel Arkhangelsky<\/strong> won the 100 fly (51.48) and\u00a0Lilla Szabo<\/strong> took the women’s 400 free in 4:14.10.<\/p>\n

Abdelrahman Elaraby<\/strong> won the men’s 50 fly duel with Oleg Kostin<\/strong> in 22.80 to 22.85 with Arina Surkova<\/strong> taking the women’s title ahead of Rikako Ikee<\/strong> in 25.73 to 26.01.<\/p>\n
