Qin recorded the only performance under the 59-second barrier, going 58.61 for a comfortable margin over runnerup <strong>Dong Zhihao<\/strong> (59.06).<\/p>\n<p>With his victory, Qin qualified for this summer&#8217;s World Championships in Singapore, where he&#8217;ll look to defend the title he won in Fukuoka in 2023. At the last World Champs, Qin swept the breaststroke events, highlighted by a world record in the 200 distance. In the 100 breast, Qin is the second-fastest performer in history at 57.69, trailing only Great Britain&#8217;s Adam Peaty (56.88).<\/p>\n<p>Qin is looking for a bounce-back season after his Olympic Games did not unfold as planned. At last summer&#8217;s Paris Games, Qin finished seventh in the final of the 100 breaststroke, posting a time almost two seconds slower than his personal best. In the 200 breaststroke, Qin missed the final after tying for 10th in the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/li-bingjie-breaks-asian-record-joins-exclusive-club-in-400-freestyle-at-chinese-nationals-pan-zhanle-shows-range\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day One Coverage<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 100 butterfly featured a tight affair, with <strong>Yu Yiting<\/strong> claiming a narrow triumph over <strong>Zhang Yufei<\/strong>, a two-time Olympic medalist in the event. Yu got to the wall in 57.30, just ahead of the 57.39 of Zhang. Both women will represent China at the World Champs, with third-place finisher <strong>Wang Yichun<\/strong> (57.80) left home.<\/p>\n<p>Yu came back later in the session and won the 200 individual medley in 2:08.67. The big news behind Yu was the fact that second place went to 12-year-old <strong>Yu Zidi<\/strong> (2:10.63).<\/p>\n<p>In the final of the men&#8217;s 50 butterfly, one of the weaker events for China, <strong>Chen Juner<\/strong> emerged on top in 23.41, .05 ahead of the 23.46 of <strong>Sun Jiajun<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In semifinal competition, <strong>Tang Qianting<\/strong> and <strong>Xu Jiayu<\/strong> positioned themselves as the top seeds for Monday finals. Tang continued her strong campaign by clocking 1:05.72 in the 100 breaststroke. A run at a time in the sub-1:05 range can be expected in the final for Tang, who won Olympic silver in Paris. As for Xu, the veteran and two-time world champion cruised to a 54.12 effort in the 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 100 backstroke semifinal saw <strong>Wan Letian<\/strong> advance into the final as the No. 1 seed, behind a swim of 59.35.
