He won gold in the 50-meter freestyle at the World Short-Course Championships in 2022 and 2024, as well as bronze in the 100 free at the latter. He made the Olympic final in the 50 free at the Paris Olympics, finishing eighth.

Crooks is a two-time national champion in the 50 free (2023, 2025) and one of only two people, with Caeleb Dressel, to break 18 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. He added two relay titles to his pile of 25 All-American certificates this year and set the NCAA record in the 100 free, which held despite him not winning the event. He left Tennessee first in program history in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly and all five relays, winning 27 SEC medals, including 11 golds. If it proves his final swim, he will have closed with an anchor leg of 39.36 to lead the Volunteers to an NCAA title. His college career was a full, uninterrupted four years.

Crooks figured to be a contender in the next Olympic cycle among the 50 freestylers, with a home-hemisphere games for a national icon. While his underwaters have made him more potent in the short pool, he’s translated his speed adeptly to the medal conversation for long-course races. He was 19th in the 50 free at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest and sixth in 2023 in Fukuoka. He was seventh in the 100 free in Fukuoka, which is probably the highest distance he would go to internationally.

Caymanian World Champion Jordan Crooks ‘Stepping Away from Competing’ Jordan Crooks, the NCAA champion at Tennessee and World Short-Course champion, is taking a step back from competitive swimming.
