Angela Martinez Guillen & Andrea Filadelli Clinch Respective Titles At Open Water Swimming World Cup<\/h4>\n

Angela Martinez Guillen<\/strong> and Andrea Filadelli<\/strong> won their respective 10ks at the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup 2025<\/strong> in Ibiza.<\/p>\n

A 58-strong women’s field set off first in the Mediterranean Sea and it was Martinez Guillen who pulled away in a sprint finish to win in front of a home crowd in 1:58:41.40. It was a first title for the Spaniard who finished 10th in the marathon swimming in the River Seine at Paris 2024. She was followed home by Celine Rieder<\/strong> of Germany (1:58:43.30) and Bettina Fabian<\/strong> (1:58:46.00). Fifty women finished the race with seven DNF and Mariah Denigan<\/strong> of the USA DQd.<\/p>\n

Rieder said through the German federation, dsv.de: “I was quite far behind for a long time after the start. It was only before the last lap that I finally made it to the front. From then on, I was able to keep up with the Spaniard until the end.”<\/p>\n

Filadelli broke away at the end of the race to lead an Italian clean sweep of the podium in 1:50:30.90 ahead of Dario Verani<\/strong> (1:50:33.20) and Giuseppe Ilario<\/strong> (1:50:34.90). Marc-Antoine Olivier<\/strong> was the next man home in 1:50:37.70, a sliver ahead of Joey Tepper<\/strong> of the USA who was timed at 1:50:37.80.\u00a0Olympic silver medallist Oliver Klemet<\/strong> set the pace from the front but after four of the six laps, he was no longer able to mobilise all his strength in the water, which was only 18.3 degrees. Many swimmers even dropped out prematurely because of this. Eighty-two men had started the race with Great Britain’s Hector Pardoe<\/strong> – who was sixth in Paris – disqualified and a further 13 men not completing it with the water temperature playing a part.<\/p>\n

It was the second edition of the 2025 Open Water World Cup<\/strong> following the opener in Somabay,<\/a> Egypt, in February where Florian Wellbrock<\/strong> and Moesha Johnson<\/strong> took the spoils.<\/p>\n

Martinez Guillen heads the overall women’s rankings after two races with 1300pts followed by Olympic bronze medallist Ginevra Taddeucci<\/strong> (1100pts) and Lea Boy<\/strong> and Fabian both on 850pts with Rieder just 20pts behind with 830.<\/p>\n

Filadelli leads the men’s rankings with 1250pts followed by Olivier (1150) with Logan Fontaine<\/strong> and Verani both on 1100 and Wellbrock – who’s competing in a domestic pool meet – fifth with the 800pts he secured with victory in Egypt.<\/p>\n

Olivier<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Ana Cunha<\/strong> were crowned overall champions in 2024 following the cup finale<\/a>\u00a0in Neom, Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n
