Great Britain Selects Team Of 28 For World Championships In Singapore<\/h4>\n

A 28-strong Great Britain team has been selected for the World Championships in Singapore, led by Paris 2024 medallists Tom Dean, Duncan Scott, Matt Richards, James Guy<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Ben Proud<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Athletes who reached the Olympic podium last year in the French capital were all pre-selected in the event in which they’d claimed a medal.<\/p>\n

Scott, Richards, Guy and Proud all won titles at last week’s Aquatics GB Swimming Championships<\/strong> in London with Dean also preselected as part of the men’s 4×2 that made an historic defence in Paris. Jack McMillan<\/strong> – who swam the prelims in Paris –\u00a0 is also on the team as a discretionary pick. One quandary the selectors face is who’ll join Richards in the 200 free with Scott and Guy having tied in a dead heat on the final evening in London.<\/p>\n

Adam Peaty<\/strong> was the other individual medallist in Paris with silver in the 100m breaststroke but he won’t be competing in Singapore.<\/p>\n

A further eight swimmers were selected after clinching gold inside the cut for Singapore, including Angharad Evans<\/strong> and Oliver Morgan<\/strong>, who broke British records in the 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke respectively. Evans went 1:05.37<\/a> – a time that would have won Paris silver – to go into the top 15 all-time which followed her 200 PB of 2:21.86.<\/p>\n

Morgan demolished his 100 back mark<\/a> in 52.12 as he sliced a 0.58 chunk from his previous record of 52.70 set in the same pool en-route to Olympic qualification a year earlier. That elevated him to second in the 2025 rankings behind Kliment Kolesnikov<\/strong>\u00a0and his 52.04 from the\u00a0Russian Championships<\/strong>. He also entered the top 15 performers all-time, topped by Thomas Ceccon<\/strong>\u00a0and his 51.60 WR set at the\u00a02022 World Championships<\/strong>\u00a0in Budapest.<\/p>\n

Keanna MacInnes<\/strong>, Freya Colbert<\/strong>, Eva Okaro<\/strong>, Max Litchfield<\/strong>, Katie Shanahan<\/strong> and Abbie Wood<\/strong> are also on the plane to Singapore after winning their respective events within the QT.<\/p>\n

Evans and Okaro will make their senior long-course worlds debuts along with Greg Butler<\/strong>, Leah Schlosshan<\/strong>, Ed Mildred<\/strong> and 17-year-old Jacob Mills<\/strong>. Mills, who is coached by Jamie Main<\/strong> at Repton School, had an eye-opening meet, winning 100 free silver behind Richards in 48.03 before heading the 50 free prelims in 21.96. He went on to finish second behind Olympic silver medallist Proud<\/a> in 21.99.<\/p>\n

Aquatics GB performance director Chris Spice<\/strong> said:\u00a0“We were treated to a week of top-quality racing at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, with so many Worlds selection times met and countless finals going down to the very last strokes. It is always a pleasure to see events being moved on as well, so a special mention to Angharad Evans and Oliver Morgan for their respective British records, which bode really well for the season ahead.<\/p>\n

“Seeing how swimmers like Jacob Mills, Max Morgan and Holly McGill delivered in front of packed crowds and a TV audience at the London Aquatics Centre last week means they are already on the right track to do that.<\/p>\n

Equally, it is always promising to see the way our experienced big hitters, including Duncan Scott, Matt Richards and Abbie Wood, were able to show their class and perform strongly after some well-deserved breaks post-Paris, and that is encouraging in terms this summer, our ongoing relay prospects and the longer-term picture over the next Olympic cycle.”<\/p>\n
