British Championships, Day 1 Prelims: James Guy James Guy Heads 400 Free But No Place In 200 Final For Freya Anderson<\/h4>\n

James Guy\u00a0<\/strong>headed the 400 free field into the final but there’ll be no place for Freya Anderson in the 200 after day one prelims at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships<\/strong> at London Aquatics Centre.<\/p>\n

Guy booked lane four as he continues his return to the eight-length event in which he won silver at the 2015 World Championships<\/strong> in Kazan, Russia but Anderson misses the 200 final after finishing ninth in heats.<\/p>\n

Faye Rogers<\/strong> lowered her own world record in the S10 200m butterfly in 2:18.93.<\/p>\n

Selection for the World Championships, which run from 27 July to 3 August in Singapore, will be based on performances at the\u00a0Paris Olympics<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Aquatics GB Swimming Championships<\/strong>\u00a0in London.<\/p>\n

Swimmers who won a medal in an individual event at Paris 2024 will be selected to the Great Britain team for this event in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Individual medallists in Paris were\u00a0Adam Peaty<\/strong>\u00a0(silver, 100m breaststroke),\u00a0Ben Proud<\/strong>\u00a0(silver, 50m freestyle),\u00a0Matt Richards<\/strong>\u00a0(silver, 200m freestyle) and\u00a0Duncan Scott<\/strong> (silver, 200IM). Peaty won\u2019t be competing in London as he takes a break from competition although he confirmed that he\u2019s set for a tilt at his fourth Olympics after the IOC confirmed the inclusion of the 50m breaststroke at LA2028.<\/p>\n

Relay medallists will be selected subject to confirmation by the Great Britain head coach,\u00a0Steve Tigg<\/strong>. The men\u2019s 4\u00d72 free quartet claimed an historic gold as they defended their title from Tokyo with\u00a0Tom Dean<\/strong> and Guy joining Richards and Scott.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50m Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

Kara Hanlon<\/strong> will be top seed into the final in 31.10 ahead of Anna Morgan<\/strong> (31.50) and Amelia Riggott<\/strong> (31.61). Angharad Evans<\/strong> didn’t compete in the one-length race but will instead focus on the 100 and 200.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 Free<\/h3>\n

Guy, who told Swimming World of his return to the 400 last year in Paris, was in the 10th and final heat to the right of Kieran Bird<\/strong> and Jack McMillan<\/strong> who both swam prelims of the 4×2 in the French capital before the GB quartet claimed an historic defence. Guy booked lane four in 3:50.28 ahead of McMillan (3:51.19) and Bird (3:51.50).<\/p>\n

It was the fourth 400 since he made his return and he told Swimming World on poolside: “I think I’m in a good place, hopefully a bit of rest before this evening and go faster. I’m in a good spot, I think.”<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Fly<\/h3>\n

Just 0.72 separated the first four women, headed by Keanna Macinnes<\/strong> in 2:10.15. Emily Richards<\/strong> (2:10.27), world champion Laura Stephens<\/strong> (2:10.69) and Ciara Schlosshan<\/strong> (2:10.87) followed her home to book their slots in what promises to be a unpredictable final.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100m Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

Greg Butler<\/strong> led the way in 1:00.23 ahead of Archie Goodburn<\/strong> (1:00.56), Filip Nowacki<\/strong> (1:00.68) and promising youngster Max Morgan<\/strong> (1:00.86).<\/p>\n

Adam Peaty<\/strong>, winner of two Olympic golds and a silver, has been preselected for worlds but he won’t be going to Singapore.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

Freya Anderson<\/strong> finished third in the eighth of 10 races which always seemed to be a potential issue for the 2022 European silver medallist. And so it proved as she was locked out of the final by one place and 0.10 in 2:00.47.<\/p>\n

Freya Colbert<\/strong> led the way in 1:58.68 with Lucy Hope<\/strong> (1:59.37) and Erin Little<\/strong> (1:59.65) were the other swimmers inside 2mins with just 0.34 separating the remaining five qualifiers, rounded out by Jemima Hall<\/strong> in 2:00.37 with Anderson heading to the B final.<\/p>\n
