Johnston has placed fifth and fourth in the past two years. Meanwhile, Maurer has already had a tremendous meet, winning the 500 free and 400 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Cal had one in the final heat as well in <strong>Lucas Henveaux<\/strong>. The fifth-year helped the Golden Bears secure the 800 free relay in an NCAA-record time on Day 1 and has placed in his individual events.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2025-ncaa-division-i-mens-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAA Division I Men\u2019s Championships Meet Page<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/swimmeetresults.tech\/NCAA-Division-I-Men-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Defending champion <strong>Zalan Sarkany<\/strong> of Indiana opened the pace of the race and led by a couple of body lengths through 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 yards. He held a five-second led at the 1,300 mark.<\/p>\n<p>While many miles over the years have had different pushes and lead changes, Sarkany had it the entire way and was never in doubt. He finished in 14:21.29 to earn the repeat title.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a nice swim. I was just trying to survive and not get passed. I did a great job with that. I needed that after this week,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I always try to go out with it because I know I have great endurance. I did not expect (to pull away like that). I just had to tough it out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Maurer was second in 14:25.22, followed by Henveaux (14:27.62).<\/p>\n<p>Yale&#8217;s Noah Millard was fourth in 14:28.43, followed by NC State&#8217;s Owen Lloyd (14:29.13).<\/p>\n<p>In the early heats, Kentucky&#8217;s<strong> Carson Hick<\/strong> held the top spot with a 14:30.35 from the fourth heat (of five).
